I'm removing the 48V li-ion unit from Bigbattery.com from my main website after seeing the circuit breaker wiring. I am very disappointed considering how nice the LiFePO4 version is.
If someone wants a used, plug-n-play option, I'll tell them to use 2x LiFePO4 packs in series.
(they will be back in stock soon)
I know some people had great luck with the li-ion pack with their systems, but I can't recommend such poor craftsmanship. Big battery.com promises to fix this problem, but the kWh cost is still pretty high. Not worth the weight and volumetric density savings.
I was expecting the same if not better craftsmanship quality as the LiFePO4 version. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Let me know if you disagree

Once again. Love how you don't hide anything from your viewers. Whether it's the companies mistakes or yours.

I sincerely appreciate how you go to the next logical step in your mind. If it dosen't work, you still keep it on your video. Then you show how you came to the solution. So very helpful!!
LOVE your work.

Timing couldn't be better. I literally just got this exact setup with the 48v NMC from big battery. Thanks for another great video

Will, agree with your comments on the workmanship. I also noticed how tight the positive cable was against the BMS, I have seen equipment catch on fire when the pressure on the insulation has cut through to the conductor during extended use; should be more slack in the cable.

Years ago (many many years) I used to be an engineering manager for a company producing electronic equipment. So, I think I know whereof I speak. I really really like watching your videos. I admire you greatly. I used to have some people like you work for me. It made my life happy. Good catch on the sub standard wiring - a problem waiting to happen at the least convenient moment! No, I'm not a relative of yours.

Your videos are way above my comprehension. But I still love listening to you and trying to learn a little from each video. So far I'm very confused on what batteries are the best for the money, same with solar charging systems.

Having spent my life in the electronics industry I have learned one thing about the Capacitors you have mentioned. Chinese made capacitors have a lifetime issue due to impurities used in their assembly that limits their lifetime, the precharge helps to build the electrolyte film without punchthrough and helps extend their life. Capacitors manufactured in America had this issue to some degree from only one manufacturer and that was over 50 years ago. Capacitors manufactured in Japan, do not have this issue and Japanese Caps will outlast Chinese caps by 10 to one. This situation is well known in the Chinese electronics industry so Chinese manufacturers of the "Finest" electronics use Japanese manufactured Caps.

I found with the MPP Solar the software is way easier and faster to change settings.

About time we got a new Will video! Awesome 48 volt ideas in this one -- and Will, thanks for enunciating your Ts. Too many people do not enunciate their Ts these days.

Got 4 of the 48V banks today from bigbattery. I just noticed when shopping for parts these banks connect using an Anderson SB50 connector, rated for 50Amps. It appears from the spec sheet this termination will produce 30deg C heat above ambient at 60 Amps. It doesn't appear to be too hot, and it does accept 6AWG, which is 65Amps according to NEC. The mounted breaker is 65A so it appears B.B did their due diligence. Also looked inside and the main leads are mounted with nice ring terminations and the solder work looks good and generous! Looks nothing like what you have shown on this clip.

Like your site keep up the good work.

I have a similar 48v system, so was really useful to ear the size of the resistor for the first connection.
Thanks mister and great review.

Hi Will. Another helpful video and you know we all appreciate what you do. One thing that I hope you will do for yourself is to be a little more cautious (spark!) and take a little bit more time to warn your less capable viewers how to be careful. I would hate to see you suffer through an injury, or worse, be blamed or held liable by a noob. I spent my entire career working with electrical and electronic equipment. I am only here to talk about it because of my good working habits. I've been hit quite a few times and it always brings you back to the realization that the basics of safety are the most important thing of all. You are very knowledgeable but your viewers may not be. Stay safe!

I really appreciate your focus on safety. I worked in the chemical industry for many years, and safety really does need to be "Job 1". And also emphasizing

Been looking forward to this LV5048 video since last fall. I used Tesla modules just as you were backing away from recommending them. Appreciate the Tshirt! Also, to avoid sparks I have a big breaker between the batteries and the inverter. 5 months off grid, 42-48.6V cycles every day. Could not be happier with the LV5048. Thank you for the guidance! 🖖🏽

Your Solar Shed is amazing. You should take it to the next level, buy a 45ft Lagoon or Leopard Catamaran, and convert it to Solar and Electric drives. Curious to know what you would use in a Salty/Wet Boat Environment.

WOW! I just purchased this same setup 2 days ago (2-NMC 48V with LV5048) to start my off grid project.
HOWEVER I purchased the NMC 48V from another company. Same cabinet, same BMW NMC batteries, same 14S configuration, but they convey the capacity a bit differently: 4.55kwh at 85% to 90% capacity. Has anyone done business with Tech Direct?
I'm concerned that this is not as plug and play as I thought it might be...guess I better get and read Will's book first before attempting a hook up?
