I could see how thrilled the wife was at participating in your project.

That's a MASSIVE battery!! I love to see that they finally have the 4 AWG cabling on their SB175 plugs as opposed to the 6 AWG they were using on some of the higher-amp batteries. Excited to see the teardown.

you got it! Yeah, the weight is no joke. I had a friend drag it to Taj-Ma-Haul, leaned it into the side door and then slid it into the trailer. I should've filmed the install, but I was doing it alone... I just made it through 36 hours of 19 degrees f and through a winter warning in Flagstaff, AZ keep the heat in Taj-Ma-Haul set to 68f! When I left the freeze I was down to 13% and when I got to 4, 000 feet and the ice melted away it started charging again and by the time I was back to Tucson, 80% charged! I can't wait to add the next one.

That Pop Tart part cracked my wife and I up. That thing is bad ass. Thanks for sharing. God Bless.

How long did it take to charge the Batt from your Solar pannels, (what is you Solor output?) and how long to charge batt from the Grid? When charging from the grid where you able to calculate the $ amount in power used?

Pretty sweet system! I've been running something simular for about a year now. 5.7 KW solar array - 19 KWH Lifepo4 battery bank - 8 KW Growatt 240 V inverter. I'm off grid most of the time other then my electric clothes dryer. Great video and tests 🙌

Hi Joe can you show how your sub panel connected. Thanks

I just racked a couple EG4-LL batteries, 10Kwh worth, cabinet fits 6, gonna have to get more. Now's not a good time to put all your trust in the grid and the just-in-time delivery system.

Another con is the fuse type they chose.
In a dead short situation, that fuse can generate an arc. Tclass fuses are recommended for lithium batteries.

I just got 5Kwh of old scooter batteries. Now I have to look at upgrading my inverter from 120v to 240v so I can run my induction stove. But I’m very happy that right now I can run my refrigerator for a week.

presently running off grid for last week on 1ea Trophy 220ah 16S and 3 ea DIY Eve 280ah 16S batteries. Two Sol Ark 12k's, 20, 600PV. I would not want any less than that. I have six more 280s presently being completed. I'll have about 3 to 5 days back up power. I'm running 5.5 tons using three separate heat pumps., 80 gallon water heater and electric range. The only thing that is LP gas is a Honeywell 10 K.

A big Plus on the safety of lithium iron phosphate batteries definitely which was why I chose them. I'm running three Banks of 14 KW hour batteries and 48 volts. A total of 48, 280 amp hour cells. It's super adequate when I don't have to run air conditioning and it's adequate when I run air conditioning overnight as long as the next day is sunny.

Absolutely great video Joe, but I knew it would be when it popped up today! Great comparison to a Powerwall II as well.

I have 60kw+ of Big Battery products, 3 years in, off grid. I can give thumbs up to their technical Support. I've needed it. Been off grid 35 years here with virtually all battery options. Hoping these current batteries live up to their useful lifespan.

Wow, That thing is massive! Leave it to JOE to make another great video! BigBattery doing great work Mr. Eric Lundgren helping our DIY community with these batteries sir! Make me want to buy a few of these....I love the form factor...

14, 000 battery house drawing
1, 000 watts shows 14 hours until empty.
Or figure Maximum draw down recommended so this is a guess
20% left in battery.
14, 000 x 80%
11, 200 watts of battery would give you
about 11.2 hours of run time.
One can see in very hot areas of the country 2 or 4 of these would not be over doing it.
what is the average charge up time for this big thing.
How much solar power is need to recharge.
My 18kwh drawn down to 40 % takes
3.0 kw from panels about 4 hours to charge back up.
I can see where more solar panels could be needed on some installations
I feel you can not have to many solar panels because of rainy days and you can not have to many kwh of back up batteries.
Great video thanks for running it through it’s paces.

Great video. I think one (small) problem with this battery is the decimal places on the display, it appears they they are only using 1 decimal place (but showing 3), some people won't use the app meaning that this rounded cell voltage is misleading.
I wish that we could use this battery in Australia.

Fantastic video review Joe. How do the think the Kong 15’s would do. They are only 1kw power capacity but weight almost 300lbs more at 650. What am I missing? Heat on the battery clearly isn’t an issue. The Kongs don’t wall mount. Do you plan on running at 80% use? Down to 10% upto 90% or 20%-100%. Kongs show 10000 cycle at 100%. So if you run at 80% they say it should go up a potential of 50% more cycles. At 15000 cycle that would be 40years. So jacked for off grid capable life.

Off grid battery setups are my addiction. Currently running 52kWh of Tesla Model S battery modules and Id have a hard time going back to anything below about 30kWh now. But I started with one module and one panel and slowly added capability, now I only used they grid 3-4 days a year (January + rainy weeks).

Sir, I am far less than an average Joe, but I am interested in solar. I've watched lots of videos trying to learn. But your video is by far the easiest for an "average Joe" to understand, and in a very practical way. So, thank you for sharing. The way you presented the information in this video is very helpful to me. I am encouraged now, and thankful that you have provided me with an idea of what it takes to to run a house on solar. And I'm going to check out these batteries further. That's simply because your presentation about them seem honest and objective. Thanks again.
