Cleaning a pair of 3 Year old MPPSolar 48v PIP inverters - ⭐[Shocking results]⭐

I've had this pair of MPP Solar PIP4048MS Inverter/Charger units running full time for a few years now, and given average temps are in the 40ies I've decided to pull the covers off and give them a service & visual check over.

All that was found was a light coat of dust, no discoloration of the PCBs or connection points. Overall I'm very happy with how well they have held up in my real-world testing of them. They run my home full time and the static load it's around 600watts with a peak of about 7000watts but not for very long.

For the past month or so we have been running one 800w airconditioner as well as all the other normal house loads and they have handled it well.

I can easily happily say I'd recommend these units to anyone thinking about buying them.
The version I'm using the PIP4048MS is no longer available, the upgraded version is a PIP5048GK below.

With that high Aussy temperatures it is hard to believe they last running 24/7

Yes I've had my MPP Solar inverter for a few years now, it has been pretty flawless in operation. I'm probably due to give mine a cleanout like yours around about now but it still works perfect.

I have two LV6548's, and am impressed so far. Another happy customer.

Just binge watched about 300 of the current 309 videos in this playlist over the past week or so. Loved watching from where you can from to now. Recently came across the idea of DIY powerwalls and plan on getting one going over 2020. Keep up the great work and looking forward to more!

Thanks for that video, I have on order a 11KW version for use down in the Blue Mountains area, so it's the cold that I have to contented to especially the lifepo4 batteries.

I love how they use the shaped plastic plus fans to create a wind tunnel over the circuits and fets/heat sinks. I was expecting like PC levels of dust lol glad they turned out to be nice and clean.

the fan direction is likely because the capacitors are probably near the top, they need first dibs at cold air as there very sensitive to it. So for a long lasting inverter you want the stuff that heats up near the exit, and temp sensitive components first. a 10deg temp dif can half a components life. in addtion it will stop dust from settling as easely if there is enofe air flow keeping particals moving with the help of gravity (basically what you observed.

I was happy to see you securing the screws of one or two of the power lines !

I suggest that you tighten all Power cables. I have seen where AC connection become loose over time for two basic reasons.

1) Obviously, heat and cold expand and contraction. Loosening the contact and causing resistance.

2) Not so obviously, AC is alternating current. While not do obvious, the alternating current is vibrating and vibration can cause cables and connection to loosen ever so slightly but enough to cause more resistance !!!

Nice video. Fan blades are often overlooked. A dirty fan blade can cost you 20% efficiency loss in their ability to move air. From Minnesota, minus 26 C here this morning.

I also have one of these MPP SOLAR 5kW offgrid inverter. Have been on for past 2.5 years. Great product.

I'm in caboolture and just about to usher the plunge into an all in one mop inverter charger. Going partially off grid with my house. I have 10kw of 48v batteries already ordered and I'll add to more in a few months to go up to 20kw of battery storage. I'll be getting a single 6000w unit or possibly an 8000w.
I use to have a big epsolar mppt charger and it was expensive and rubbish.

Hi Pete, great videos.
I have just finished my first 18650 7s80p powerwall using the 24volt MPP PIP2524GE. I have a radio/radar maintenance background but this earth neutral bond lark is doing my head in. My plug in tester is happy when I am only using the mains 240VAC grid input but when I am on solar or battery, my tester says no earth. I have a RCD on the MPP ac output which trips when i push to test. I have a multiple outlet to run my computer, printer, lights, fridge and freezer but want to be safe. How did you manage your MPP AC outlet to be safe? Cheers, Paul

I have the same configuration since 2016. But lead acid batteries. It is very good!!!

Fans drawing air down and out the bottom while heat rises results in greater heat extraction via the counter flow of air.

Hi, very nice setup I like it. The question I have is you used seperate solar charger they have MCP60X and at the same time your inverter supports slar charching as well. My question is
what is the benefit of using MCP60X over it's own charging system. I am thinking to buy MPP5048

thanks

Hey Pete, regarding the fan direction, my PIP5048MS fans came flipped and blow upwards. Probs why yours are so clean haha

I flipped my pips around (fans blow upwards) and rotated the lcd screens. Much easier to do the wiring also :)
