Nikon D7500 First Look

We sat down with Nikon Canada's Chris Ogonek to discuss Nikon's just-announced D7500 mid-range, 20.9-megapixel DX-format DSLR.

**Correction** at 6:23 our lower third graphic incorrectly states the kit lens as an 18 - 104. It is in fact, as Chris states - an 18 - 140. We apologize for the error.

Great upgrade to the d7200! so much better but with no where near the price of the D500.

A lot of similarities with the D500, for about 7-800 dollars less . The second memory card slot was never an issue with me, the grip has improved over the 7200, cool monitor . Sold

Why did Nikon feel the need to bridge the gap between a d7200 and d500? Why make a new segment? I thought Nikon was restructuring and rationalising its product line-up? This is in fact a lower level than the d7000 series. It's actually more at a d5000 series level.

Without only 2 features, 2 SD slots and battery grip, D7500 is out of 7xxx league. It means D7500 is not a D500's little brother nor D7200 successor. It is closer to D5xxx level. Greedy Nikon just killed one of the most beautifully designed body... But appearance without specific technology is only a dusting piece of gear on a shop's shelf.

Can anyone tell me if the D7500 also crops in on the sensor, when shooting 4k (UHD) VIDEO? The Nikon d500 did this, making sure that people wouldn't even consider it for video, when cheaper cameras like the Sony a6300/a6500 shoot 100 mbs 4k video, using the entire APC-sized sensor.

Guys + Gals. Remember, this is Nikon’s 100th birthday year …. AND, let us not forget. Nikon has already stated that it will be streamlining it’s DSLR range and concentrating more on the ‘high end’. Everyone is ‘assuming’ that this is the D7200 replacement. ( This is the D5600 replacement ) When it ‘hits the shelves’ in June/July, Nikon will then officially DITCH the D3xxx and D5xxx lines. Has the penny ‘dropped’ yet ? The D7500 is now Nikon’s … ENTRY LEVEL DSLR … hence NO ADDITIONAL GRIP ... and the single card slot, smaller battery, etc, etc …Later in the year, the price of the D7500 will have dropped to around the $1000 mark. We now have a $900 to $1000 price gap between the D7500 and the D500 … Nikon will then ‘unleash’ the D350 on the world. ( The ACTUAL D7200 replacement ) A slightly ‘detuned’ D500, priced at about $1500 - £1600. As for Full Frame ? A ‘detuned’ D5, the D10 … an updated D810, the D900 … and an ENTRY LEVEL D750 update. So, there you have it … Nikon’s new 'HIGH END' DSLR range. As the ENTRY LEVEL DSLR in Nikon's "NEW" range, I don't think the specs and ( $1000 ) price are actually ... that bad ! ?

Im getting one, I like the way the specs are similar to the D500, and almost 800 dollars less. The absence of a second memory card slot for me, isnt a big deal...

either save your money for a D500 or save some money and get a used D7200 because this offers no real benefits unless you are looking to upgrade from a D3xxx or D5xxx and even then i refer you to the earlier part of this comment.

Could have wish the Nikon d7500 has 24 mega pixel then 20.9 Mega pixel and also still have 2 SD Card slot, that's a bit discouraging for me and the Nikon Users.

Is there going to be a kit with the 16-80 2.8 to 4 like the D500 is kitted with? That's the real winner.

I think nikon messed up when they made the d7000 to d7200... many people realized that for a semi pro cam, it's too great.... so they lost on some pro sales... so for newbies, they need to have a drastic difference to the full frame world....

No way to by the camera body that cost so much with only 1 SD card slot! Nikon engineers go crazy with this camera.

I think that's a new generation 4K CMOS

There's more features left 20.9 mega-pixel sensor instead of a 24 mega-pixel sensor, 1 card slot instead of 2, no NFC connection, no battery grip, lower resolution display, and NO AI-coupling for older Nikon lenses. The D7200 is still a better buy and a better camera in some ways.

Don't understand Nikon's thinking, only one card slot...They are all but asking us to switch to Sony...especially if Sony comes out with a dual card slot, high megapixels, low light sensor with a high frame rate... What are they thinking. Almost no one sees this as a viable upgrade from a D7200, and I won't move from my D7100 either... Sad very sad... signs of a company in trouble and losing market share and enthusiasm to take the creative lead again. It like they kit bashed the D7500 from a combination of D7200 and D500 parts.. That is not creativity or leadership.... That is turning the creation of a new camera over to manufacturing and finance people, instead of the innovators and designers. Makes me wonder if Sony is really not selling new sensors to Nikon...

lol --- POS hyperbole review. Glad I've bought and use two d7100(s) for my photojournalism work

With 2 Card Slot, 30-36 Mpxl sensor, 4K Video, 8 Fps, Tilt LCD Touch Screen, ISO 100-102400, Wifi NFC Bluetooth, GPS, I think this should be the specifications of nikon d7500, #NikonEngineerFail #NikonGOBROKE

Not exciting at all. I will stay with my D7100 - it's way more pro than this toy.
