I’ve made a promise to myself. If I ever have kids or adopt a child I would instead watch these videos to not only understand my child but to also show them that I, the parent will always be there for them and that they feel comfortable with me

I was often told the opposite. Getting good grades was met with "well you're supposed to! What? You want a reward?"

These are the kinds of words I wished I heard growing up, but hey thanks psych2go for making such great videos!

“I’m not angry at you as a person, I am frustrated by the situation.”

My partner has autism and our son has autism + adhd and that is the number 1 most effective phrase I have ever used with them.

I'm 43 and still would love to hear the same from my own parents- especially the lecturing part. It makes me feel completely invalidated and I've communicated this. I guess it's hard to change in your 70s. I don't want to perpetuate some of the ways my parents dealt with me as I raise my own.

This was something I needed as a child. But the best part out of it, I use these with my child. They need this in the now, so that when they're older they wouldn't feel so abandoned or isolated. Thank you!

the only one i’ve heard was
“you’re sibling looks up to you”
not in the genuine sense, but more or less in the sense of “you’re going to end up making your sibling act just like you if you don’t stop now.” which just made me feel worse and guilty so i isolate myself from my siblings now. least from my little one.

I love this with all my heart as a person who would always get the wrong statements thrown at me I’m glad you educated and told parents how you should be treating your kid instead of making them figure out how to have self esteem in themselves by giving praise to themselves for good activity’s and accomplishments it’s always good to see this thank you so so much :))

Watching this video really showed me...how my parents never said any of these things to me. Watching these parents videos
I found myself relate to the toxic ones nearly 100% of the times and when watching these I definetly do wonder. So this is what healthy parents look like? Idk if anyone else feels kind of astranged to healthy parent-child relationships like this?

I will do this with my future child when I’m ready . I’m 18 but one day I’ll have a kid but first I have to be financially ready and travel the world first

As a child, I have never heard that from my parents ever.
That probably justifies why my mental state is how it is to this day.

I have toxic and narcissistic parents. I'm a 19-year-old and this will be very helpful for me since I want to have a family and treat my children the way my parents never did to me and my other siblings. I don't want my children to experience the pain I went through, and I want to be a good father.

As a teen thinking far in the future rn, I don't want kids, not because it'd be a lot of responsibility and commitment but more would I be a good father and not push my past onto my kids which can further damage them later in their lives as they grow
