Blender Secrets - Improve your photoscanned environment with fog

One quick way to improve your photoscanned environments is by adding some fog overlays. Luckily we can get some free 4K fog overlays from Premiumbeat - all we need to do is slap them on a plane and put them in the scene, preferably constrained to the camera. This video shows how!

Man, you basically fit a 15-minute tutorial of an average blender sage into one minute. Cool, I love your tuts so much! No wasting time, no redundant introductions, straight to the point and very concise.

really love how one can just use fog footage and not simulate a while thing which would take hours maybe even days to render out

thanks for the free fog footage <3

nice. I love using REAL footage instead of CGI stuff. It feels right.

"I found that using an image texture is actually the most simple solution, rather than using nodes." HERESY!

Where did the black background go at 0:27?? I’m stuck!

for those who have a footage with no alpha channel, just black background: you can put the color node of your footage into a color ramp and use the color slider to make it as you want.

Really like the tutorial, did you happen to make the fog mask shown in the video in photoshop? Trying to figure that out

Very smart! I use a similar material setup to add realistic clouds to my scene, which even support the sun casting shadows and god's rays from them! For fog however I still prefer volumes rather than this setup... of course they cost a little more render time that way.

Dude...How can the circle mask be the hardest thing of this whole video man....

i can't get rid of the black background: What am I doing wrong?

This is also called "billboarding". Very useful in 3D game development when you want to render objects from a set distance (usually trees) without taxing the system.

Well done tutorial tho!

Thank you for the tutorial. Please could you provide some clarification on the shading nodes? I can't find the "multiple" node?

Wait how exactly did you add the mask? I didn't get that bit

I have compared the blender secret book and just the video number 611 improve you photoscanned environment gives me an error. I am working with the version of Blender 3.2, maybe it has changed some functions and it no longer allows that option to be done. The problem is that it doesn't work for me like in the video. Can someone please help me and tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thank you very much in advance.

Thanks for this. Bought your book. Great tips. Am I missing something though? The imported footage, at least when I bring it in will not just show the smoke - it shows all the darkness around it and is not transparent. It normally works with png and the alpha says it's there. What's happening?

Very interesting video. The noted group footage is very blurry and out of focus, I could not replicate the nodes. a pity I am particularly interested in how you created the mask but could not understand it this time.

Should have searched for you before adding volumetric fog to scene & risking my Potato laptop

Wait... this is supposed to take 5 hours and a smoke sim.
