I'm a Hurricane Katrina Survivor - let me take you back to 2005 - where after the hurricane in NO - (where you must carry flood insurance) the insurance cartels colluded to shred and delete all records of insurance policies held by their customers - I was personally covered for over $50k - for my home/gallery = the insurance co. rewrote their policy (stating they could do so at any time) and said I was NOT covered for "wind driven rain" (that collected to 16ft of water that flooded the entire city) - they offered to refund my premiums back (of $450) if I didn't file a lawsuit claim. I refused - and entered my name along thousands of other hurricane victims in a class action lawsuit against these Insurance cartels.
...
Perhaps everyone has forgotten that the Insurance Co's stole over +$19 billion in premiums and bilked the storm victims - deleted paperwork and even had the audacity to claim they didn't know their own policy holders. These same insurance cartels asked the US Federal Government to intervene, because they were "too big to fail" - and the US Gov back-stabbed its own citizens and offered the insurance companies legal immunity!
--
Outraged, our lawyers turned the lawsuit against the Arm Corp of Engineers for building a faulty levy - and the US Gov again turned against the survivors and claimed they could not sue the Government body. FYI: FEMA was also a failure, 1, 400 people died and half a million US citizens were relocated and cast to the four winds. Our entire emergency system was a sham.
--
Insurance is legal theft. Do not trust the Gov to help you... they will only collude with Corporations to screw everyone over.
FAST-FORWARD 3 years later... the US Gov shoveled out +$700 billion to corrupt banks as a bailout for their criminal conduct.
OUR money given away to corrupt CEO's and Corporations that did nothing but harm the American people.

My bro-in-law is somewhere in NC helping to restore power lines. He's with a Canadian crew of "linemen" who travel all over the place helping wherever and whenever needed. He said he has never *ever* seen this level of utter destruction in his 4-decades of being a lineman. Just awful...

So many places I have shopped, eaten in, and driven by hundreds of times. This is all shocking. My parents are nearby and stuck in their neighborhood because of washed out roads. Thankfully they got cell service back Saturday night, but who knows when there will be power--let alone the ability to drive out of their area.... 😢 I'm just glad they are safe and their house is standing, because so many

Had plans in place and tickets in hand to vacation Asheville and visit the Biltmore today. I was so looking forward to the beauty, majesty and artistry of a place I understood to be a jewel in western NC. My heart aches for the tremendous grief all are undergoing. I know the spirit of the community will recover but this reckoning of loss breaks my heart.

As hard as this is to watch, thank you for being willing to go in. This up close footage really hits home. We love visiting the art district and the Biltmore Village. Our prayers for their quick recovery, but mostly for the dear souls lost.

All the old timers on the hill warned us every year that we were only a wink away from this. Anyone who says nobody saw this coming didn't stop long enough to listen. You've all of my love, my Carolina Kin. May every day to come be more beautiful than the last.
