I live in Black Mountain, and can say that we’ve seen nothing like this ever. The news hasn’t reported it yet but hundreds of bodies have been found in trees, the rivers, and in building and houses. The morgue is full so that they’re putting bodies in a few trailers. Hundreds of people are missing, and my family and I have been working tirelessly around the clock to go search and rescue only to find the worst of results for most so far. A lot of elderly people have passed due to no oxygen, not being strong enough to break windows to escape, and other means. It’s a sad time right now and it’ll never be the same.

The population in the US has exploded in the last 100 years…and these areas are no exception. The 1916 flood was terrible, and. Affected many lives…and today, a devastating flood like this affects so many more people as the population has grown. Every part of the country has it’s dangers, but when it comes like this, it seems like the end of the world….and it is for many. The Galveston, Texas hurricane of 1900 killed several thousand, and there is no way to prepare for anything like this. All any of us can do is hold on to each other, start a rebuilding process somehow, and remember those who were lost. Life is not secure…and episodes like this remind us of that.

I can't believe this isn't all over the news. My guess is that this damage is worse than Katrina since it affects so many areas. Maybe not watching enough news but not seeing enough reports. Thanks for posting.

So another year postponed trip for the Blue Ridge Parkway fall leaf peep road trip. I really wanted to tour this town along the way. Daughter is cancelling here Aniversary vacation in the general area. Hate to think what people in the area are going through. If I was younger I'd put a couple chainsaws and a box of tools in the truck and have a good Samaritan adventure.
