A Mountain Lion Screams In The Angeles National Forest

I am Lion, hear me roar! Hot off the press! Just today February 23, 2024. Two hours before I showed up to check this camera, this male lion stopped by to take in the scent of a female cougar, who was here exactly 24 hours earlier. It appears he’s hot on her trail and looking for a date.

For the first 15 seconds she looks like she really wants to sneeze but can't.

Aw, this takes me back to my rural CA childhood in the '80s hearing puma shriek/yowling at night off in the distance. We saw their tracks around livestock water tanks but they never bothered us.

BTW most cats (even big ol' cats) have a sensory organ called the vomeronasal organ in the roof of their mouths, which they can smell with (along their nose). That's why you sometimes see cats smelling the air with their mouth open. Looks silly tho :)
