It doesnt sound that scary but when youre twelve years old and hanging out in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, climbing some huge rocks and you hear that sound coming from some bushes right behind you it's the scariest thing in the world. Like 4 idiots we all ran back to my friends house full speed, luckily it didn't chase us.

Growing up in Georgia and Alabama, I promise you when you hear that sound in the night out in the woods, that is one sound that will absolutely chill you to the bones!!

Apparently if you hear this from a distance it sounds like a baby crying or a woman screaming. Dad always told stories about that and never go looking for it if you hear it

I think this is a female cougar calling a mate. Cougars make noises of varying intensities all the way from a chirp to a scream much louder than this. Thanks for the upload.😏

We have here in North Colorado Springs right now. Shes been walking around the last 2 nights doing exactly this. I saw her with a kitten laying out on a rock cropping yesterday afternoon.

My dad could make that sound, quite well, and was a practical joker. Up on a camping trip with the teen age cousins, camp was quiet, things were settled down for the night. Dad sneaks up to the side of the boy's tent and lets out a loud cougar scream right next to the side of the tent. Knife blade that came through the side of dad's extra tent, almost got him. He was very pleased with that story and told it for years, at family gatherings.

Pumas are so beautiful. 🐈. They are the big version of a domestic cat because they are closer to them than to the big cats. 😺😻
