The Powerful Puma Screams!

The powerful puma patrols the canyon in the Angeles National Forest on December 7, 2022.
(turn on the sound)

Believe it or not, this was most likely a message for the other male lion, who was in this very spot, five hours earlier, and then returned only twenty minutes after this. Twenty minutes! More to come later. Stay tuned.

Those sounds went from adorable to terrifying REAL quick.

I've only ever heard this in deep woods camping/hiking videos where, from a distance, it sounds like the screams of a distressed child. Very haunting. It's cool to see and hear it from the source's side for a change. Thanks for sharing.

That's the most aggressive meow I've ever heard.

Things that make you say... "pack up the tent, camping trip is over".

I love how she looks right into the camera like “Hey, you getting this shot? This is for you!”

I live in Indiana and I heard this sound one night. The animal was walking around my yard. I looked out windows and couldn’t see it. I thought about going outside in order to identify it but it scared me enough that I am glad I didn’t. I few years later my neighbor caught several pictures of a mountain lion on their trail cam. I also found out the cats have been spotted for several years in the area. I am really glad I didn’t go outside.

Heard this once while walking in deep woods. A huge whitetail buck then went past us at full throttle, in the opposite direction, snorting like a locomotive. We stood in place for about 5 minutes trying to settle ourselves. A once in a lifetime experience for us.

0:30 -- *Puma :* "Are you getting this on film, Bob? Because I am NOT doing this again just because you forgot to hit 'record'!"

My son was asleep in the tent with me as we were camping out down by the river in our home town, around 12 midnight, a pack of dogs from a distance were barking loudly, Then we, the dogs and I, heard this wonderful big Cat screaming, , not far from us, , And just like magic, the dogs shut up and everything went totally silent, , ❤ i love cats, ,

In the summer of 2001, my late wife and I were hiking in deep woods the mountains in Alberta when we heard this sound ahead of us. It was well out of sight, but not that far away either. We knew instantly there was only one animal it could have been. That was scary. We slowly turned back toward the trailhead, looking frequently over our shoulder.

There is a very popular 1400 acre State Park that people will take their dogs to on the edge of Portland, Oregon. I go there every Sunday morning. I have heard this sound numerous times while we were walking our dogs there and thought it was some some kind of bird. Now I know better and will be keeping a much closer look around my surroundings if I hear it again.

To anyone thinking of camping in the wilderness, it honestly pays dividends to watch videos like this one. Whenever it's after dark and you and your squad are gathered around the fire and you hear some shit like this out in the trees, you get to be the gigachad who goes, "It's a mountain lion. Sounds like it's trying to communicate. We stay close to the campsite and keep this fire going, we'll be fine."

I was hiking in Trabuco once and I heard a mountain lion cry similar to this one. It was faint and at a distance, but I cut that hike short. The way this noise just sets of every alarm in your body is incredible.

What a glorious close-up, Robert. These big cats aren't having the easiest time of it here in southern California; it's awesome to see such a healthy one. Thank you. 🐾💫

What an intriguing title! The puma, also known as a mountain lion or cougar, is such a fascinating animal. Their vocalizations can be quite intense, and it's incredible how they use them to communicate in the wild. The puma's strength and agility are also remarkable, making it one of the most respected predators in its habitat. It's always exciting to learn more about these majestic creatures and their behaviors in the natural world. 🐾🌲✨

The cat is going through a mental list of things to do today and 'scream randomly' is the next on the list.

It's kind of like my day.
