Holy shit, so that's why "looking away" was the only way to survive. To not engage and give the monster attention is the only way to fight it. The monster of grabbing your attention as a product.

But when the siblings look at each other, they survive. They're looking at what's really important.

This is definitely one of the best analysis videos right now. A lot of people didn’t understand the chimp flashback scenes and I think a lot of people who won’t like the movie will mainly point out the chimp attack scenes not making sense. But I think people forget that Jordan Peele isn’t the type of director to add something pointless in his movies. It was very intentional and I think it drove the point further as you mentioned of people exploiting tragedy in pursuit of capturing a spectacle

I feel like when the part when the alien defecated or regurgitated on the Haywood property could be a literal example of the Scripture from Nahum at the beginning of the movie; it discharged its own filth on the house, marking the space as its own territory at the expense of the people within, and the entire scene was visually haunting like a spectacle

Interesting point of view, from a different perspective, I believe the meaning behind the flashbacks with Ricky & the chimpanzee was also related to our lack of learning from others or our own mistakes. The producers and directors of the show had thought they could somehow control the chimp in order to make a successful show. This doesn’t end up being the case as we see that the monkey (a trained show animal) always had the possibility of reacting unexpectedly. Ricky attempts to do the same thing with the alien saying he had been experiencing/working with the creature for sometime (6 months prior). Even though Ricky ends up being the only survivor on set from the chimp attack he still doesn’t learn his lesson and just like the ppl from the show believes he can also control the alien/creature the same way they believed they could control the chimp for exploitation and fame.

Jupe also makes his kids dress up as aliens that look exactly like the camera rolls at the Gordy incident. Making his children dress up as his most traumatic experience is so disturbing. Great video btw👍

Might be wrong, but I think the little girl who gets mauled by Gordy survives and is the veiled woman with the disfigured face that shows up to Jupe's spectacle. Just another example of the film depicting entertainment chewing you up and spitting you out.

I feel like so many people are complaining about the monkey scenes because we were denied the spectacle that peele is talking about. We only see so much of the tragedy, to where some may interpret that as "distracting from the main plotline" and it kind of creeps me out how deep down, part of me wanted to see more of the attack.

This was honestly a good movie. I was caught off guard because I was kinda expecting something different from what I saw from the trailers. But loved the message and the twist off this movie.

Did any one notice how the fake 3 alien masks resembled the 3 abandoned cameras in the studio in the Gordy flashback? Or how Jean Jacket was supposed to be Emeralds horse as a kid but then she's the one who gets to finish Jean jacket the alien? Has anyone figured out the upright shoe??

I think the monster spitting out the materials shows how no animal benefits from the entertainment industry and that once they snap they don’t go for material gain they go for your life. The horse kicks at the lady, Gordy attacks the girl, the monster eats the people.

Also the parallel with the champ and the UFO and how they both suddenly “lost it” and went on a frenzy.

It’s so many layers in this movie, it started with picture of their grandfather displayed inside of Gene Jacket and when Gene Jacket took final form it was OJ and Em mother and the very last pic she formed into a Butterfly it means rebirth. She was their Guardian Angel, she was the cloud that wasn’t moving. A Praying Mantis on a house symbolizes Angels watching over house. And Angel was literally watching over their house from his work place

I loved the whole Jupe-Gordi-and animal undertone and foreshadowing. What I took away from it was how Jupe tried to capitalize off of trauma and still had his co-star around knowing damn well he aint care about her and all that memorabilia. i also feel like since the balloon made Gordi go crazy, out of fear Jupe tried to be friends with Gordi even after he hurt all those people. Same with the alien, he was fascinated by it and tried to dev a relationship with it but it killed him...the "alien" is just another feral animal. I really like how in the end the Jupe (as a balloon) kills the alien. And when the power cuts back on you can hear his PA say "Hasta La Vista" that was cool

"Real life death, pain, danger, disaster... Captures our attention the quickest. And a studio has no problem monitoring monetizing that viewership" You said it best... Speaks numbers that we got an Emmitt Till trailer before this movie....

My friend caught onto something and mentioned the obsession with the number 4 in this movie. If you go back and watch everything is in 4’s. 4 Chapters, 4 icee flavors, 4 main characters, square mouth on UFO, 4 boards on all horse stables, 4 handles on the cabinets, 4 audible NOPES, 4 legs on a horse (bit of a stretch) and NOPE itself has 4 letters! Maybe im making this up but seems purposeful. Probably more that i missed but its what we caught!

What about how the alien disables technology when it’s ready to strike and puts the humans in their most vulnerable state. I feel there’s some commentary there about our dependency on it to survive at this point that without it we have become so vulnerable.

I hope it's not just me, but I feel like so many people review and critique Jordan Peele's movies the wrong way (and I'm not talking about Lucas here). After watching Us for the first time I looked at some reviews and so many said that it was poorly written or had "some Major plot holes" because the scissors being used as weapons was unrealistic and never got explained, and I was just sitting there like ??? People don't understand that his movies are MADE for deeper meanings?? Tethers?? Scissors?? The Untethering??? Like seriously come on man if you can't pick out that at least then why are you reviewing a movie in the first place? Leaving the theatre from Nope was horrid because all I could hear was this group of white dudes saying "bro what was the point of the monkey it just took away from the actual storyline with the alien, " so again people still have a hard time appreciating the deeper meanings and themes in his movies.

The main reason it upsets me is because I know dudes like the ones I saw at the theatre are just there because it's "cool" to go watch Jordan Peele's movies now. Which is actually quite funny since this movie deals so much with spectacle and worrying about status. And I know DAMN WELL that flew way over their heads (pun intended)
