You missed that horse Jean Jacket was supposed to be “broken/trained” by Emerald. In the end alien Jean Jacket was broken by Emerald, so it all came full circle for her. She finally completed her family right of passage.

This movie really had my heart racing the entire movie. The scene with the entire crowd getting eaten had creeped me out. And hearing their screams above the Haywood house as their being slowly digested was so tense.

Another factor in Holst's demise, is that I think he was sick. There's a part before the climax of the film where Angel notices him taking pills. Jordan Peele isn't one to point the viewer to something without any meaning. So if he was already dying, what better way to go out than attempting to get the "impossible shot".

That scene with the people inside the Alien and then later blood raining down on the house is like Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds.

Something I haven't seen anyone bring up yet is the design of Ricky's aliens and how they're directly inspired by Gordy's Home. They've got furry, brown bodies, with his kids wearing actual monkey suits. Even more striking is the heads, being the same gray oval and two black circles as the cameras on the show's set (seen in front of the empty studio audience seats in the last "Gordy's Home" scene). It's a really cool detail and more proof of how affected Ricky was by the event.

He calls them "the viewers" ....
Heads like a camera ...
All part of the spectacle

Pretty cool thematic tie-ins in their design.

When I tell y’all my heart STOPPED at the stable scene where the kids prank him…… I literally felt my body like float away from me. The creepiest thing is looking into the dark at something and that something starts moving 😳 yucckk

You didn't mention it but the debris from the beginning is the leftovers of some hikers that you hear about on a radio in the background later.

When the alien spit out the horse on OJs car, it was like the alien was saying, "Here, take your horse back you asshole" and raining blood on the house was payback

The tmz reporters helmet also doubled as a call back to when lucky had the handheld mirror pointed at him. Regardless of where the guy went there was essentially an eye on the alien regardless of where he was. The Helmet was a big ass mirror lol

After sleeping on it, I think the movie was more a allegory on social media and fame. How we are willing to go to great lengths to become famous and get a quick buck.

Examples:

Haywards wanting to capture it on video to get on Oprah. Never truly coming to terms the deal of their father. Thinking money will solve their problems.

Ricky not dealing with the trauma and grief he suffered from that monkey attack and turning the alien into a spectacle in order to make money and become famous again

The director getting the “perfect shot” and literally sacrificing himself to do so.

Lot of people now a days sell their souls to become an influencer and only let the public see the best versions of themselves while burying any internal struggles.

you have it wrong. the “impossible shot” that was being taken was the point of view of prey being killed by a predator

I don't think Holst's film was destroyed, especially since the alien rejects non-organic items. Holst mentioned the wheelchair on the roof and noticed all of the other junk, so he had to know that it does this. He also mentioned that Em wants to live the dream he is living everyday, which it is implied that he is not quite satisfied with it as he hasn't got his true idea of a perfect shot. He sacrificed himself knowing that the film would be rejected out of the alien ( there's a scene that indicated it did survive) with the impossible shot of the alien's mouth and possibly inside of it. Plus, there was another crank camera on the hill that Angel took over after Holst left with the other one.

Plus, there was a huge film crew in the end of the movie at the park's gate, as the alien flew over the town, so probably a lot of other people caught it on camera also.

This movie right here had me at the edge of my seat! Every time I reclined my chair I jump back up 🤣

Otis isn't wearing a bulletproof vest, that's just regular padding protection horse riders sometimes wear especially if they are planning on doing something dangerous. A really good idea since multiple characters get thrown through the air.

I just saw the film yesterday cuz it only released recently in India. There were so many details in this film. The first ever motion picture was of a black man riding a horse and the first ever clear ufo footage was going to be a ufo chasing a black Man on a horse.
The cinematographer was suffering from cancer (he was taking pills) and he wanted the impossible shot which was of a prey's pov when it's being eaten by a predator (he was looking at film footages like that).
It's about social media. The alien was being referred to as "the viewers" by Angel. They try to tame/capture the viewers. If you look at it (social media stars who get obsessed with viewership or followers), it sucks you in and eats you (your financial and social life and what happens to you are in the hands of your viewers/subscribers/followers now) .
The movie references from ET (Gordy and Jupe's fist bump), close encounters of the third kind, Akira (motorcycle slide).
An alien monster that looks like a flying saucer which looked like it came from one of H P Lovecraft's novels. Man this movie is gold. The reviewers saying this movie waa bad are absolute idiots.

Alternate theory for vomiting blood all over the house: The alien usually eats a horse at a time, but it suddenly eats 40 people. It's vomiting because it ate way too much.

Holst brought his camera. The camera will be disposed of due to being nonorganic. Maybe the film survives. He filmed the experience of being eaten alive. The "you don't belong the shot" is both saying "you don't deserve to die. Run." And also "I've been working for this moment my entire life. This is my moment." Thoughts?
