Gave Nope a rewatch once it hit VOD and knew I had to pick a scene to discuss. What is your favorite scene? How do you feel about this one?

This scene is what it feels like to fall into the corner of a bouncy house but everyone is still bouncing

Imagine being the woman mauled by Gordy. You'd been going through life disfigured and your reward is getting eaten alive by an Eldrich monster

I feel the most horrific part in this movie for me personally was when it was flying over the house and you could hear the people still screaming from within it. They’d been in there hours and the screams were so bloodcurdling, I genuinely had goosebumps. The whole films sound design was impeccable!

This scene messed me up. The collective confusion, fear and agony of the people as they scream sent chills through me. The fact that many scenes in the movie you can hear screaming in the distance makes it even more disturbing. I loved the creature concept and design.

They screamed nonstop for hours. I would’ve thought their voices would give out, but the pain forced them to keep going. At the same time, the collective screams reminded me of another movie called “Annihilation” when the group encountered a mutated bear who had one of its victim’s voice assimilated into its own.

This scene shook me up like nothing has in a long time. Just imagine being one of the poor souls who attended the Star Lasso Experience- you're suffocating inside a massive, alien creature's boiling innards, the stench of stewing carcasses searing the inside of your nostrils. All of your bones are steadily shattered by the peristalsis . Your skin, sinews, and muscles all sizzle off, layer by fragile layer, as you're doused in its pooling stomach acid and your screams of agony join countless others in a horrific symphony. There's no escape. No relief. Just death on all sides.

The part when oj looks out his car and sees the alien when he says nope and closes the door made me laugh hard

This scene literally gave me a damn small panic attack in the theatre. Was scared to go driving home that night after it.

I personally interpreted Jupe's actions as that him taking that survivors guilt with an unhealthy dose of denial.
He didn't want to believe him being the only unscathed one was dumb luck, instead thinking maybe it was a sign he was special and could connect with any potentially (or definitely) dangerous creatures. So if a chimp who killed his cast offered him a fist bump instead, why not try befriending a eldritch style flying creature that regularly hoovered up horses?

The thing is, I think the horse was blocking the way. That’s why the woman stops. But the people are still getting pushed up. It might also be why the blood comes raining down. The people weren’t able to finish being digested and got crushed and expelled, along with the horse after. Notice how the TMZ guy stops screaming a lot sooner. Nothing was blocking the way for him to be digested. Might also be why they all started screaming so loud. They were all being pushed up into each other.

But that’s just my theory

This is the moment the movie went from Nope to Hell Nah.

The fact that there were kids also in that audience really disturbed me and that just like the adults will be digested slowly. The screams in the sky after this amplified this scene. The first time I saw the scene I was uncomfortable in a good way. Been a while since a horror scene got to me.

This scene was LOUD in the movie theater. The gurgling bassy noises the alien vessel made combined with the claustrophobic visuals and how long the scene dragged out made it a VERY unexpectedly disturbing scene I was not prepared for lol.

I have an idea that JJ doesn't actually traditionally digest people as we see no gastric organs or bodily fluids when it 'unfolds'. The metal it swallows is also unaffected. I think it just squishes it's prey to eat the organic stuff. What's causing people to instantly scream and say "it burns" is being low level electrocuted by it's bio-electric capabilities. It'd also explain why it shoots out the metal components so violently, it's acting like a living rail gun.

When I found out it was the alien creature, it terrified me more than it being a spaceship of aliens. Knowing both the horses and humans screaming and crying in the distance sky, goes to show how primordial the creature was. Only to obey it’s instinct to eat. And as the humans were been ingested was horrifying. The feeling of claustrophobia, and slowly being absorbed of your body’s flesh, bodily fluids, and self in the dark, can only make one feel sympathetic for some poor rodent or prey, who has not been properly killed by it’s devouring nemesis and swallowed alive.

I love the creature reveal in the third act. Originality in a creature design is hard to come by since so many ideas have already been used. It's my favorite part of the film.

Watching it in the theater was fucked up, in the dark it was insane to watch, everything felt like it was closing in

I never understood how the Gordy scene scared more people than the digestion scenes, Gordy story is realistic which im sure is why but that very reason is why it didn't resonate with me as much cause it's too believable while jean jacket was something truly unknown and dreadful

Having this scene follow shortly after Gordy gave me two thick layers of momentary trauma. Haven’t felt so shaken by a movie like this in a long time.

When I first watched this I mistakenly thought "everyone is gonna get out somehow" until they were silence. To me that is the most horrifying part about this scene.
