It was already killing humans. At the very beginning you can hear the missing hikers they mentioned in the radio screaming in the clouds. It was their stuff it dropped out that killed their father.

Peele had the actors first scream like they were on a Rollercoaster. Then he told them to scream like they were being murdered. He combined the two. That's what you hear when they're being digested.

This is actually a genius movie idea. They took one of the most basic horror movie tropes, aliens, and removed the entire idea of them being dangerous due to they're intelligence and made it a freakishly large animal. That's genius! It still maintains all the scary mystery of "what can it do?" because it's an alien, while also making it a threat for entirely different reasons. love it!

This movie uses primal fear in a way nothing else has. Instead of “spooky monster running toward you” being called primal, this actually doss it. There is no fight with hands or weapons, instead you’re in a hunting ground of something 1000x bigger then you and you’re put in the prey position without an ability to turn around and become a predator home alone style. It’s the best rep of primal fear I’ve ever seen

An alien saucer being the predatory alien itself and not a ship is a frightening concept to think about. Though apparently it’s no match to a helium balloon in the end.

I watched this movie completely blind. Never heard about it before, never saw the trailers, didn't even know the genre or the fact that it's a jordan peele movie. I just went to the theater alone and randomly picked this one. And god, I came out really satisfied by what I just watched

After seeing this, what Nope did seems like how a bait and switch should be done in cinema. Everything about the marketing made it out to be a fairly classic UFO abduction story. None of what was shown was then a lie, because even within the context of the film, it was thought to be a UFO initially as well before they come to realize that it's not an interstellar ship, but an interstellar creature, which changes the context of the film, turning it from a UFO/alien abduction movie into a monster movie.

the most terrifying part is the digestion scene, and the fact that they are in there for so long still alive slowly dying just sounds like the worst way to go

I like how realistic they made the reaction to the alien. Because let’s be honest, most people would whip out their phones and possibly profit off of an alien encounter rather than doing something heroic, like in most movies, to save the human race

JJ DOES have an eye. It's located inside of it's mouth, you see it a few times during the film. It's the green block at the end when it unfurls. The reason it react aggressively to eye contact is because it eye is in it's mouth, so it relates it to hunting.

It also didn't originally relate humans as a source of food. Jupe had been feeding it for a while, which habituated it to humans. JJ knew that where there were humans, there would be food. It's the same as people feeding bears and later getting mauled for upsetting it for one reason or another.

That was definitely one of the smartest moves to make. Tricking it into swallowing a helium balloon was genius and I most likely would have never thought of that.

8:50 using pigs wouldn’t work as bait, pigs’ necks limits their upward movement so they physically cannot look up, that’s why you see a pig on top of the entrance of Jupe’s theme park.

Something I never saw anyone point out is how at the start horses where being used to lure the alien then the alien started using horses to lure the humans.

I watched this movie at night, and was schocked at how good and actually terrifying it was.

I like how Jordan Peele fooled everyone into thinking that there was aliens inside the UFO but then dropped a huge bombshell by revealing that the UFO IS the alien, greatest plot twist ever imo

Realistically after all those people went missing with no trace from the park, there would be a media frenzy. A bunch of search and rescue teams scouring the area, assuming families of the missing would be desperate to find their missing family members. Military would investigate on that alone, helicopters/planes would be searching the area for the lost.

The creature can 100% see through its body as it swaps focus between Em and OJ at the end. It definitely sees when OJ makes Eye Contact in the movie. Eye Contact is a huge part of the movie as OJ doesn't like to make Eye Contact with people. Eye contact was interrupted with Jupe and the Chimp with the table cloth. You weirdly skipped that whole bit.

The animal he uses as "bait" is the one of the only animals that can't look up. Thus, the one pig that was left at the theme park

Fun fact: *Jean Jacket* shares many traits with the Lovecraftian "Flying Polyp." Territorial, aggressive when looked at, and a few others. There is also lore (and youtube videos) for a "real" aerial phenomena called "sky serpents" that appear more like giant organic flying worms than anything mechanical, but also seem to house orbs of light or be made of orbs of light. Not disc shaped nor eating people but certainly what came to mind when we learn in the film the UFO is alive.

If you listen close in one scene of the movie, when they recognize the cloud that isn’t moving, OJ says “y’know I’ve probably been looking at that same cloud for the past six months.” and later on, Jupe says, “for the past *six months*, my wife and i have bare witness to an absolute spectacle.” meaning that that cloud was 100% JJ, and OJ was oblivious to it for those 6 months while he was selling Jupe the horses that would get fed to JJ.
