Nice loop. “Is the shoe even standing? Nope.”

I noticed when he tells his story he doesn’t tell his perspective rather the snl parody, its a way of detaching himself from the actual horror and ptsd that’s he’s repressing.

It’s such good writing they didn’t have to do that

You're the first I've heard talk about the shot from the other angle. It's all in his head. DOPE

So, the shoe still has a foot in it? Is that why he thinks it's standing? Was it just way too gory for his mind to accept?

When OJ remembered when Lucky freaked out at the mirror on set, he remembered it differently than it actually happened.

The shoe standing up is a reference to what OJ was talking about. A “bad miracle”.

The kid playing young Jupe needs a shout out. He played the hell outta the character.

With jupes depiction of the aliens looking like the cameras I think it’s also interesting to note that he calls the alien “the viewer”.

Bro, you broke this down better than anyone else on YouTube...in 60 seconds. You are 1 BAD Man! Thank you!

He’s staring at the shoe and not looking Gordy in the eyes which is why he didn’t get attacked. The shoe could have been standing for a second but he was fixated on it instead of the massacre.

this is also a notable scene because this is the one of the few spectacles the movie audience DOESNT get to see in its entirety.

Wow. I love the complexities Peele manages to put into his films, beautifully hidden through its simplicities.

Days after seeing this film, it popped into my head and i couldnt stop thinking about its themes and symbolism.

Peele is some film maker

I think the shoe is standing, but it's just there for juxtaposition. The odds that the shoe landed that way are soooo unlikely and it can be compared to the seemingly HIGHLY unlikely odds that Gordy would hurt anyone. But just like the importance of the whole Gordy show being in the story, it's a microcosm of what the movie is about. We think it's so unlikely, like the shoe that we forget that it can happen, just like a wild animal attacking people is likely to happen.

This was my thought exactly! I think a theme of this scene and the movie as a whole is the fallibility of memory. To me, it was a way of showing that the scene was a memory of Jupes and not a narrative flashback for the audience. As we replay memories, they tend to warp—especially if it’s a traumatic memory we play over and over. The shoe is a brilliant device for this.

The shoe is what kept his eyes off Gordy. It's from Jupe's perspective as in we see what he's looking at.

The shoe is standing from another angle, as well

It's a fluke like the quarter that hit the father's head at the beginning of the movie. One in a million chance of happening. But how we perceive such an event is the point of the scene.
