Surface Pro how to enter BIOS or UEFI

So how do you enter the BIOS (UEFI) of the Surface Pro? And once there- what can you do? If you want to try another OS on your Surface Pro you need to go here first to disable Secure Boot.

Thank you for this. Microsoft's instructions are ambiguous; they say "hold down the Volume Up button, then press and release Power". What they neglect to mention is, if you have a keyboard cover attached, there are effectively TWO Volume Up buttons on a Surface; the F6 key is also clearly marked as Volume Up, and frankly, that's the only one I ever use. So when I tried to boot to BIOS by holding that down, it didn't work. Only after I gave up and found your video did I even remember there were volume buttons on the top of the device, and of course it works perfectly.

This is the BIOS? So you can do all standard things in a normal BIOS like set boot to LAN, power on AC, etc?

is there no way to enable cpu virtualization, or is that in the settings inside the computer, or is it enabled by default

So sorry to hear that. I wonder if the volume rocker button was jammed? Or else the solid state drive connection may have been bad. At least with the old style BIOS you could see if the hard drive was being detected correctly.

I know it’s been a long time but what if it keeps booting to this? How do I erase it with a new usb?

Oh lord, mine just refuses to power on if I hold the volume up button, and mimic exactly what you did. Maybe they changed the process for devices that came along after yours, because this makes no sense. Never does... All I wanted to do was attempt to put Linux Mint on this Surface 2, so it had a purpose again. lol

Thanks for sharing the info though. I'm a magnet for these odd situations and bad luck when it comes to the simplest things.

For programs like DBAN that require BIOS access, will this allow me to run said program or is that a no go.

You can just as easily push 'Del' on the type/touch cover at boot when it says 'Surface'.
A shame it's such a bare bios but understandable.
