Just a comment on the new position of the volume keys, being opposite to power on the short sides.

That position makes it impossible to be comfortable using the surface as a reading/portrait device. So people is resorting to disabling the volume buttons by means of the device manager. I guess mr Ergonomics Engineer at Microsoft was absent the day of those validations.

How do you exit this mode? This is the only mode I have even after powering down the tablet

If noticed that your UEFFI is lacking the option "Devices" - I stumbled on that because my Surface Pro had this Option in UEFFI to acivate and deactivate some Hardware in BIOS. My new Surface Go 3 i bought refurbished is also lacking the "Device" Option in UEFFI - with the consequence that my LTE-Modem is deactivated and there is no possibility to switch it on again. Microsoft Support told me that my device is most obviously alterned because of company-settings. Just that you know that your device is maybe also a refurbished business-model that was sold to a company, that would not have their empoyees to mess with the hardware settings. For me that was a red flag and I am going to return my Surface just in case there are more edits to this device I dont want.
