Brilliant - thought I had tried everything ; cleaned connectors, all the relevant windows 10 upgrades and drivers checked without success. Bought a new keyboard (for a good price) still no response. Found this video - reset the bios (not a solution you will find on MS support) - immediately all up and running! I was getting ready to spend 500 GBP on a new machine.
