The Fulminatrix was a Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnought in the First Order Navy captained by Moden Canady.

It participated during the battle of D'Qar, where it fired its orbital autocannons on the Resistance base and eradicated it, though an evacuation of the base had already been completed.

Resistance Commander Poe Dameron launched a single-handed attack on the Fulminatrix, destroying its point-defense cannons in order to clear the way for Resistance bombers to make an attack run. The Fulminatrix scrambled its TIE fighters in an unsuccessful attempt to fend off the attack

If Poe destroyed all the Tie fighters before the bombers were deployed, I can imagine the amount of damage that could've been done to the empire's fleet.

Poe's following his order to destroy that Star Dreadnought before they'll annihilate the Resistance fleet, there's no other choice. He's ignored for disobeying order from Leia.

I like how his lasers somehow destroy each cannon with a single shot and that when the lasers hit him, his ship sparks a little. Also, the fact that the shields weren't up on that dreadnought..

Why couldn't poe have just finished off the dreadnought with a few proton torpedoes to the bridge or to what ever the resistance bombers were going to attack.
Now that I think about it why could LITERALLY ANY OTHER STAR FIGHTER HAVE DONE THAT JOB?

To the people who keeps talking about the Dreadnought's lack of shields, the Dreadnought did have shields but they also only protected the bridge of the ship(Return of the Jedi shows that Dreadnought ship shields only protected their bridge unless readjusted). Also, the deflector shields were a mix of ray and particle shields which meant that it could stop both torpedoes and lasers from coming through. Hence why Poe couldn't target the bridge and take it out with torpedoes or any sort of weapons and had to rely on bombers.

sodding typical starwars!, in real life armies with access to history tends to never repeat old mistakes in starwars its a cheeklist to do so personally before any of them can begin to design competent crap or act competent XD

Stupid scene from an entirely stupid film. The fact this is the beginning of the film and opens up with childish mom jokes should have been taken as a sign how badly the entire film was going to treat common sense. An "epic" scene is one that would have some tension or have some satisfaction. This scene reduced the entire First Order into a joke and made the 'hero' look like a complete moron in a crowd of morons. The only satisfaction this film brought was when it finished and stopped molesting the Star Wars brand.
