Not trying to throw shade at this guy specifically and I’m not even sure if he’s sponsored by this company. But these bodybuilding supplement clips always make me cringe a little since all it takes is one big TikTok influencer making a certain fitness supplement recommendation for thousands of people to run out and unnecessarily waste their money on something they don't need. There's nothing inherently wrong with creatine hcl itself, but it does the exact same thing as creatine monohydrate only for a significantly higher price. The only "benefit" (if it's even a real benefit) is that the serving size is slightly smaller. But creatine monohydrate is also tasteless, so it's really not a big deal having to consume a few extra grams. Creatine monohydrate does not cause bloating, cramping or subcutaneous water retention - these are simply imaginary problems supplement companies create in order to sell you a higher priced solution. It's extremely bio-available, will fully saturate your muscles with creatine after around three weeks of daily use and is safe to consume long term. There’s really nothing more you can ask for from a creatine supplement.

“Causes less water retention”

That like is the entire point of creatine.

This is one of the reasons why it felt so hard for me to start my fitness journey years ago. There were always so many conflicting opinions and not all of them were equal. Wish I had had Sean’s channel when I was more of a noob.

Pro tip: forget the creatine and just drink undiluted hydrochloric acid

I find it hilarious that dude literally got his points from the bottle.

It's not just supplement companies. The entire US pharmaceutical industry is pretty much based on this concept. Tweak it a little bit, or combine two medicines into one and then pay doctors to push it on patients, even though it costs 100x more than the generic version or the two uncombined medicines it was based on.

I really appreciate what this man is doing, and I prioritize many of the things he says, I've liked so many of his videos to keep the information in mind

Chemistry Major Here: The HCL form of pretty much any molecule that can be crystallized is going to be stronger and more concentrated than a hydrate form of the same molecule. Hydrates are compounds that have a very small amount of water molecules that get "trapped" inside the crystallized compound as it forms, whereas the HCL form of the same molecule is extracted using Hydrochloric Acid, (hence the HCL) which is then purged and crystallized in a much higher concentration. So technically speaking the creatine HCL form is in fact more concentrated than creatine monohydrate, but the most important thing to consider in this instance is bioavailability.
Your body is only capable of taking in a certain percentage of a specific nutrient at any given time, so if creatine monohydrate falls within your bioavailability threshold, then taking anything more is just a waste.
Hope that helps 👍

Bloating and cramping is not made up. Creatine Mono can cause bloating because it sits in the digestive tract for some time while the system struggles to digest it.

You can completely bypass this issue by putting your creatine in something warm, like a tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. Don't spend extra money on some other scrappy creatine. Just chuck it in your coffee.

For me, personally, creatine monohydrate causes stomach issues. I have taken it apart from anything else and about 30 minutes later there are stomach issues. Creatine HCl, while crazy bitter, does not give me those issues. I wish monohydrate didn’t either. I will be trying monohydrate again to confirm because I haven’t had mono hydrate in 10 years

i wish the popular fitness youtubers would address a lot of people who try creatine monohydrate and get bloated and not shrug it off
ive been maintained at 185 for 12 years and as soon as i start creatine monohydrate, i shot up to 190 in a week and a half on only 5g/day and most of it going to my abdomen. there are a shit load of stories from ppl saying this..if its so well studied then why arent there a lot of studies on the bloating?

Even if hcl gives you better results, i would still stick with monohydrate because it's the most researched suplement in the world.

Ah yes, the classic “make up a problem and then solve that problem with a more expensive product” business strategy. Works like a charm

Sometimes HCL is cheaper now. I like mono but I just get what’s on sale

Creatine monohydrate does actually bloat me though and HCL doesn't. I'm not taking any creatine for the moment, but it's the main reason why if I was using creatine, it would be HCL and not monohydrate, regardless of the cost increase per serving

From my experience hcl is much easier on my stomach, while having same level of results.

So I can attest to regular creatine monohydrate giving me an upset stomach. Now I could normally get around it by always eating something with it, but I did find that HCL didn't mess my stomach up. It's literally a personal preference for me, and at the end of the day, supplements are just that. To supplement what you should already be getting from food.
