It saddens me on how so many of us believers are taking the Word of God and using it as a means of attacking and condemning other believers simply because “they don’t believe like me”. Both extremes need to examine their hearts and walk in humility (and I include myself)

God inspired doesn't just mean God existing gave these men inspiration to write something, it means the words they wrote were guided by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit wouldn't allow these men to mislead or make a mistake when it comes to God's word. Some of it is obviously meant to be taken at it's word, some was obviously allegory, metaphor. But I believe those two instances will come through as obvious to one who is open and filled with the Holy Spirit while reading it. That being said, events that are implied or referred to as historical by prophets and Jesus himself, I do take as literal historical events.

Pentecostal for 25 yrs now reformed leaning the last 3. I have seen the emptiness of people ‘knowing’ God through the heart/experience without the mind. I think that’s why reformed people lean on the more ‘objective’ truths of scripture through language and theology studies. But this too can lead to emptiness (as I know see first hand). God requires we love Him with every facility which can only be done through His grace and for His glory.

Pastor Mike! I really appreciate your "defense" of Calvinism. I completely agree. Some people get to enthralled and focused on the mind and theology. Not matter which position they hold. But our theology should affect our hearts to pour out worship to our great God!

I feel like most churches teach as if the bible is the literal word of God instead of the inspired word of God. Growing up I felt that it was drilled into me that the bible is the word of God and that it should be treated like that. Nobody told me about the different literary styles that are in the bible. I found about that later on in life through the internet by research. Most people aren't going to research to get this information and just are going to go by what their pastor taught them. I feel like this view on the bible is harmful because it causes people to feel like they have to choose between the bible and science when presented with data that contradicts the bill. This is what I think has been leading to the influx of atheism among young people because the way most churches present the bible forces them to be anti-intellectual.
