The Truth About A Chiropractic Y-Strap

My thoughts on the Y-Strap…

You’ve probably seen it all over Youtube if you search “chiropractic”. The Y-strap is basically a strap that wraps around people's heads and a diversified chiropractor yanks at the Y-axis distraction, which causes a whole series of joints to pop.

But if your problem is…let’s just say a herniation at the C6 level, something that crude CANNOT give you a specific pressure type of adjustment that actually repositions it in the right place.

We are out for a specificity, not for a bunch of pops everywhere.

I had the Y strap decompression done today for the first time after suffering from neck pain for months. My pain instantly went away.

They still do regular adjustments besides the y-strap.

I’ve yet to see one video where someone didn’t like the y strap and I’ve seen hundreds.

Well it works for people with compressed disks. I had on in my neck and got it popped back into place with on of those. My atlas joint was compressed, caused headaches and throwing up

Y strap is never used in isolation. It’s part of an integrated treatment protocol to correct objectively verifiable issues as well as produce positive subjective outcomes.

I think a combination of y strap and specific work to trouble areas is the best way forward. There appears to be benefit to the patient from both methods.

I've been a chiropractic physician for almost 33 years. During that time, I've developed my own technique (as most of us do over the course of so many years) that's a combination of Diversified, Thompson and a few of my own ways of reducing a subluxation. There are quite a few patients I treat that I've been treating since shortly after becoming licensed. I've been using the Y strap technique for less than a year. Regardless of whether the patient I treat is someone I've never treated before or someone I've treated intermittently over the last three decades, they've ALL experienced extremely positive results. Anyone I've ever treated in this manner requests that I do again. Some of the patients who are new to me have been treated by other chiropractic physicians for years if not decades. Every one of those, ones I've treated for decades or those someone else has, has expressed to me afterward that they felt something move that has never moved before and that absolutely needed to move because it gave them the most relief they've ever experienced. Although I can't be certain as there's no evidence, peer reviewed or otherwise, which proves it...I think that when the spine is decompressed in this manner that it occurs so quickly that the soft tissues, especially the nerves and the muscles they supply, don't have time to respond to or limit that decompression. I think that the decompression frees up the areas of concern that are causing the pain, even that caused by a buldged or herniated disk, and that when the decompression is over any tissue being affected by the misalignments that allowed pressure on the nerves or disk immediately reduces and naturally returns to where it should've been and where it belongs. Again, the only evidence I have to support this theory is anecdotal; however, dozens of thrilled and relieved patients grateful for that relief it's and always will be good enough for me ☺️

That's why they do all the adjustments first before the ystrap and why it's the last adjustment done

The real smh is Chiro has been around for 120+ years and someone just finally figured out this is the way to relieve people's pain.

Thank you, I agree. I have had chiropractic adjustments since in my teen years. Later, I became a Chiro Asst Therapist and a Radiologist Tech in a Pain &Chiro Clinic. I applied therapies including including ice and heat therapy. Deep Tissue Massage, Interferential and Russian Stim as well as Ultrasound.
I cringe when I see this being everywhere and encouraging the "One Yank" Miracle..I would NEVER allow a Chiro to give me this type of adjustmen. Although this seems very satifying to have one long crack down the entire spine, this could turn out very bad. I don't know if these doctors take x-rays before giving adjustments ... but I hope they do. I personally took xrays of three different patients over my career that did not know they had a fractured neck. This could truly be a disaster. 😮 Many loud adjustments give a satisfying crack that you think "Im cured!!" Realistically the next day you may find that your muscles stiffen up and you need more therapy/treatments. I think a Y Strap could end with a disaster such as ligament or blood vessal trauma .

Why not both? Make precise adjustments to properly align everything, then distract.
