It is refreshing to hear a surgeon say surgery should be an absolute last result, I must say.

I'm so tired that I thought the spine behind him, was a guitar.

I’ve been to a couple chiropractors before and none of them mentioned the risk of vertebral artery dissection prior to adjustments. After reading about quite a few people dying from this I think it should be part of informed consent before treatment

This is my favorite thing about (good) surgeons "We want to exhaust all non-operative options first". Literally their JOB to operate, but they want to avoid putting you under the knife because of the stress it can put on the body, even if it can be good in for you in the long run. Imagine if politicians handled their job with the same sort of "do no harm" mentality.

If you’re considering a chiro, research the practitioner extensively first. Don’t just go to whoever has chiropractor written on their door.

I’d say 90% of back pain comes from muscular issues and imbalances. So trying to adjust the bones is usually useless. If you’re having back pain, hire a good personal trainer or physical therapist. Not only will they help you diagnose the issue, but will also give you exercises and stretches to combat your issue.

Me who cracks my knuckles:
I'm kind of a chiropractor myself.

Whenever I see the neck adjustments it really freaks me out now. My dad, mom and I used to all go to the same chiropractor many years ago, my mom and I eventually stopped going but he stayed and he ended up having two strokes after a neck adjustment by our chiropractor. He was in really bad shape and had to relearn everything, I almost lost my dad when he was only 48. I personally don't think there is enough benefit to outweigh the risks but if you do go please make sure they're very experienced, just be careful. <3

We should watch a vlog of Dr. Webb going to the Chiropractor.

Always wondered what a doctor, an orthopedic doctor, thought of these spinal manipulations. It’s actually very helpful to hear your personal thoughts.

This was so much more objective than other MD videos, I really appreciate that. My dad got partially paralyzed after “routine” spine surgery and died three years later from related complications. He never tried other non-operative treatments before the surgery except painkillers.

Thank you Dr. Webb for your clear, concise and unbiased professional opinion. A lot of people try to dissuade based on personal opinion, but I’m grateful that you have the ability to be objective and to let patients know to try other means before going to drastic measures. Most doctors will tell you a different story just to get your money. I’ve only been to a chiropractor once. Wasn’t a bad experience, but he really didn’t do anything that was that helpful for me. Massage therapy helped me the most...

I'm not an expert but I've learnt some things from experts: Any good chiropractor uses and does a thorough examination before adjusting. I think, they never adjust without an X-Ray. They make sure, you're suitable for an adjustment and don't have calzination between your joints for example (where the disk between the chords is gone and the chords are grown together). What exact adjustments are made is based on how your joints are misaligned.
There's a technique to keep adjustments safe called "arthropraxis" (or "Arthropraktik" in German, not sure about the translation). They bend the neck way less than its full movement range. If you can turn your head 90°, they bend it like 45° so about half the range.
I also like to mention that good adjustments are supposed to hold and don't require you to do tremendous special exercise. In some cases, you visit the chiropractor like 5 times over 1 or 2 weeks. That's when he can't do all adjustments at once because the body has to "do the rest", similar to a flu. You might get yourself checked every year to be sure for example. You take care of yourself anyways and do standard things to keep yourself fit.
You're the expert, I just felt like saying that, especially because you asked for opinions. Great video!

Spine surgery has gotta be a nerve wracking job, man. Kudos to you for all the hard work, and dexterity. I'd be sweating into the wounds!

My back went out, could not stand up hardly and the spasms were crippling. Chiropractor had me healed in three visits. Been good ever since—was several years ago.

Thanks for the well balanced and common sense advice, especially the bit about surgery being a last resort! I love the look on your face as you watched the neck manipulations!
