It may sound silly but seing someone shifting gears in a manual car have always been satisfying to me. Lol.

I’d be more bothered about doing something dangerous than being embarrassed

The car stalled twice yesterday. This hill is so smooth in comparison to the rocky and dusty ones we have in Egypt. That was really a frightening experience !

Back in the day, my instructor had a neat little persuader to ensure you got this one right first time. He would take ones wristwatch from you and place it behind the rear wheel.

I have a fear of stalling uphills using clutch control not using handbrake so I'll continue watching this and also i need to be a bit more confident with roundabouts but my teacher said well done overall I'm doing ok since these thanks alot to you both. I'll keep watching this and entering roundabouts

Good video, just about practice, it’s the fear (rolling back), that gets you, but in time that will go

Its weird how in Europe where the roads are more unpredictable small hilly and hazardous people drive manuals but in American where all the roads are huge and spacious no one drives them.

Now let's have a fully laden vehicle sitting on a really steep hill on a rainy day, a tailgater nudging on your boot; and a series of STOP sign every 100 yards.

For me it’s not the fear of stalling on a hill it’s rolling back on a hill. I usually don’t stall on a hill but usually roll back even by a tiny amount or a big amount. I’ve been trying to master this technique when using in the hill.

Plus a good tip is lift the handbrake even more than needed compared to a normal gradient allowing the parking brake to hold on. I used to bring the handbrake till I could hear one or two clicks but my car rolls back so I have to pull it even more so that I can be stationary on hills and allow me to get the biting point and gas quickly.

Usually, it’s the biting point where I have not been getting on a hills which causes me to roll back.

Thanks. I passed my test a while ago but I'm not confident on hill starts after having a big problem once on a steep hill and it's been my biggest mental block to driving. I haven't been giving it much gas before taking my foot off the clutch. I tend to go more clutch first. It generally works but it always feels kind of touch and go. I'm gonna try this. I wish I was made more aware of this issue of what revs you start from on my lessons.
