I've gotten these since I was like, 5. I always hated them, they were so painful but also embarrassing especially because people always call it "herpes" (like the STD) and think it's a dirty thing to have. ugh! I'm thankful for Lysine it helped me a lot.

If you have cold sores often, take L Lysine, an amino acid daily. If you occasionally get it, take a larger dose like 3 or 4 tablets at inception and 4 hours later. And another round later. That should stop it right again. This is faster than the cream. It also works if you apply late. I used to take it one a day for a year and never had anything for 4, 5 years.
I also grind the tablets and apply it on the cold sore.

I’ve gotten laser treatment and it’s great! I actually noticed that switching to a natural toothpaste like Toms and noticed a dramatic reduction of the number I get per year.

I'm 55 and had cold sores all my life.All I do is cover it with vaselin.Keep it moist and it wont scab over.

I've always been prone to catching viruses, have a blocked nose half the time and tend to get cold sores in winter. I've spent my entire life thinking cold sores are like a cold, everyone gets it at some point and then it goes and you're fine. It turns out it's a type of orally transmitted herpes that stays for life? I don't think anyone ever told me, a quick search says it's a pretty common issue so I feel like we should be educated on this more.

I ended up in hospital last year with the worse cold sore of my life.
I had the biggest lip ever and it was so painful and swollen that I couldn't eat, talk or even drink properly without a straw.
I had the worst fever alongside it too, it was so bad that I thought I was gonna pass out and I felt a bit loopy like I didn't even know how I got to the hospital in the first place. The doctor had to check for blood poisoning and other stuff, he also said that he's never seen a cold sore end up this bad before and I did everything right I used ice cubes, creams, pain meds so in the end they gave me antibiotics which soon cleared it up thank god.

I'm always scared that I'll have another one like it coz that was a horrible experience.
