WHAT CAN BRING ON A COLD SORE:
If you are feeling ill or perhaps a bit stressed or run down, this can make a cold sore more likely to appear as your immune system will not be at its best. Being in direct sunlight can also trigger a cold sore. So, it makes sense that to reduce the chance of them reoccurring, you should look at ways of resting, reducing your stress levels and making sure that you apply products containing a sun protection factor of at least 30.

As well as cold sores looking unpleasant, they can also be quite painful. Whilst they usually clear up on their own within 10 days, the great news is that there are things that you can do to make them less painful and to speed up their healing time.

WHEN TO SPEAK TO YOUR DOCTOR FOR COLD SORES:
Seek medical advice if any of the following apply to you,
- The cold sore has not started to heal within 10 days
- You're worried about a cold sore or think it's something else
- The cold sore is very large or painful

I disinfect it with rubbing alcohol and then use glycerin

I use lavender, tea tree and peppermint essential oils and apply them every hour. Works good. I mix them together then just dab it on every hour.

I tend to trigger cold sores when I go on a bike rides and when I run vigorously(I’m usually feverish after those rides/runs. Over working my body). Yes I need to be mindful of that but do you know what things I can do to prepare for those rides and runs to reduce the cold sores from surfacing?

Luckily most of my cold sores are in my nose. I currently have one below my bottom lip. I did a tough run last Thursday and it popped up yesterday.
