How To Treat Cold Sores | How To Stop Getting Cold Sores | How To Prevent A Cold Sore When You Feel It Coming | Cold Sore Treatments

Hey guys! This weeks video is about cold sores, how to prevent them and how to try and treat them.

MUST-HAVE SOLUTIONS FOR COLD SORE MANAGEMENT:

Before using any medication, always consult with your doctor for personalized advice and to ensure it's safe and suitable for you. Also, remember to read the information leaflet provided with the medication for important details and side effects and instructions on usage duration.

NETI POT SINUS RINSE BOTTLE BY ABRAHAM THE PHARMACIST:

I couldn't find any information to clinically prove the effectiveness of some cold sore remedies seen online like distilled vinegar, witch hazel and alcohol, so I can't recommend them. But feel free to leave a comment if you've tried them to let us know how effective they were.

WHAT ARE COLD SORES:
About 1 in 5 people in the UK have recurring cold sores. Cold sores usually resolve on their own without treatment in 7-10 days.

Cold sores, also known as fever blisters or oral herpes, are very common. They can be easy to recognise as they usually appear as red bumps or blisters around the lips and mouth.

Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1), the oral form of the virus. In fact, 67% of the world population under age 50 has HSV-1 because it is so contagious Once you are infected, the virus never leaves your body. Most people aren’t exactly sure when they first encountered the virus. It’s usually contracted in early childhood where it may not appear as a visible cold sore.

HOW DO COLD SORES SPREAD:
The oral herpes virus is spread through direct skin-to-skin contact. It is even contagious when you can’t see a cold sore. Most people first contract the cold sore virus (HSV-1) when they are very young, usually by skin-to-skin contact with an adult carrying the virus. The virus can spread in various ways: through kissing, or by sharing objects like toothbrushes, water bottles, drinking glasses, and silverware. It is also possible to spread the virus from the mouth to the genitals, eyes, and other parts of the body.

COLD SORE TRIGGERS WHICH MAY BE PREVENTED:
Not everyones cold sores are triggered by the same thing, but these triggers are the ones which could be avoided to prevent a cold sore attack.

• If you find that sunlight triggers your cold sores, try using sunscreen lip balm (SPF 30 or more) before going out into bright sunlight. This has been found to prevent some bouts of cold sores in some people. Do not share lip balms with other people if you have cold sores.

COLD SORE TREATMENT:
Aciclovir can be bought over-the-counter (OTC) at pharmacies. This does not kill the virus but prevents the virus from multiplying. It has little effect on existing blisters but may prevent them from becoming worse.

The cream may provide some protection against cold sores caused by sunlight if it is used before exposure. If you use an antiviral cream as soon as symptoms start then the cold sore may not last as long as usual and may be less severe.

As soon as you get a "tingling" sensation on your lip, it is the most common sign that a cold sore is starting to form. Apply the cream !instantly! before the blisters even take shape. This is how i usually avoid getting noticeable outbreaks

Guys! at first signs I use ALCOHOL with Qtips or small piece of paper gently damp softly at touch (no rubbing or popping) and it dries out 1 to 3 days it might burn a little but worth it "cold sore free".

I always get cold sores when I stress out. Usually around final exams. Mine swells up and ice really helps me.

A tip which works for me and others apparently. At the first signs, apply ice to the cold sore, this stop it from getting bigger as they like warmth in order to grow. Do this a few times an hour the first couple of days. Apparently applying loads of coldsore cream isn't the best as the cream is warm and wet which is the perfect environment to grow. Even though the cream is antiviral you'd still be providing the perfect environment for growth. Dab small amounts on between icing. After a few days, use tea tree oil to dry it, after died, vaseline to avoid cracking. :)

I’ve had a cold sore 3 times in 3 weeks!!😫 This is something I use to help it heal faster. I chop up some garlic ( very small ) and then apply it to the cold sore. It will sting but that’s how you know it’s working. The acid is killing all that unwanted bacteria 🦠. You can also put an ice cube on it or a frozen spoon. That will help dry the cold sore so it heals quicker.
Hope it works for you too! 😊

Thank you for not saying “do yoga.” Went to a clinic a couple years ago for my awful seasonal cold sores (no triggers to them, they just happen seasonally) and doctor didn’t listen. Chalked it up to stress and told me to do yoga. I felt unheard and was extremely embarrassed by how awful my cold sores made me look. Just takes time, medicine definitely helps the itching.

I actually got cold sores for the first time. It was just one and I didn't know about it and popped it open. Now they're all over my lips and they're so swollen and red. I can't eat properly and I have my exams next week. It's so bad. Thank you for this, you're a life savior

I was born with cold sores. They are likely to come more often if you were born with a weak immune system and my best advice to give considering I've had them for all my life. Recently I haven't had an outbreak in YEARS! and just got one today. Here are a few tips and tricks I can give.
1. Abreva when you first start to feel it develop. It's expensive but works really quickly
2. When you feel a cold sore coming, do not use any used chapstick. Use a new one
3. Stay away from sugary and spicy or salty things as much as possible and no caffeine!
4. Ibuprofen does help with swelling!
5. Do NOT touch it! If it pops, do not press lips together and try not to talk or move your mouth as much.
6. Try and stay away from finger foods or greasy foods all together. Anything that is messy and can get on your lips and infect your sore even more in a no go.
7. Water is your best friend now
8. Stress is a really big problem so try and take some time for yourself when you can
9. Cold sores for me typically come before or after I get sick so vitamins and orange juice are recommended. Anything that keeps you healthy use it.

I'm no doctor but there are just the things I've learned over the years, hope it helps.

Abreeva! Apply as soon as you get any kind of itching sensation on your lip. It won't prevent it but will drastically reduce the inflammation, size, and duration of the sore.

My doctor told me that the reason why I was getting my cold sores was because my immune system was low and this tends to happen when I’m on my period. So for me, to prevent this from happening, I usually make sure that I’m taking my vitamins and eating a little healthier and all that. But when I do get a cold sore, I use a lip balm that is made to heal cold sores and such. I also tested recently that Aztec healing clay helps too! For me at least hehe hope this helps!
