57-Minute Yoga Nidra for Letting Go of Resentment | NSDR | Guided Meditation

Yoga Nidra translates into English as “yogic sleep,” yet this does not tell us all that much. Yoga Nidra refers to both a state of consciousness - one that is different from the waking, dreaming, and deep sleep states - as well as different styles of guided meditations that allows us to begin to consciously gain access to this state.

These meditations themselves are a specific sequence of relaxation, meditation, and mindfulness techniques that help the body, mind, and emotions to slowly and gently become more still and silent. Participants then systematically induce profound levels of rest and relaxation within themselves that may have not even been accessible with natural physiological sleep perhaps due to stress or chronic health conditions. As such, Yoga Nidra itself is a considered a form of NSDR, non-sleep deep rest, a term coined by neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman.

I will be including yoga nidras from the different styles I have learned. This particular yoga nidra is based on the Amrit-style of yoga nidra, and its goal is to promote the resolution of the experience of resentment within. In day-to-day life, we can choose to not be available for interactions that escalate and are quite unpleasant. We can always find a way to politely decline them moving forward, especially with those close to us or who we see often, and return to the inner stillness within to know that at our core we are okay without further strife. During the practice, we cultivate a relaxed state and develop the neutral witness perspective in order to let resentment be as it is. We can observe it and let its charge dissipate. As resentment dissolves, we can begin to choose a different response rather than indulge in fantasies of revenge or inner arguments with those who slighted us. We also are released from the fear that holding resentment makes us bad people. We hear its message, and we allow it to pass on its own.

This meditation follows the usual sequence of the Integrative Amrit (I AM) Method of Yoga Nidra, developed by Gurudev Amrit Desai of The Amrit Institute, which focuses on the energy body, and as such, it is possible to go into deep states of meditation in a relatively short amount of time compared to other types of meditation.

Simply follow the guidance as best as you can, and your body and mind will do the rest. The yoga nidra itself is roughly 57 minutes in length, not counting the portions with background sound and music. Preliminary instructions will be given at the start, and the meditation itself starts at 9:14.

As Gurudev would say, Jai Bhagwan! (May the Spirit be Victorious! Or, victory to the Spirit!)

Hello again, I hope that you are well.
I had actually intended to work through your meditations in chronological order, but when I saw the title of today’s Yoga Nidra I could not resist it. I was once told in an AA meeting that alcoholics like myself harbour resentments more than ‘ordinary’ people. I am not sure if I agree with this per se. I have found that alcoholics, like everyone else, differ greatly as we are all unique individuals just like the rest of the human race. I do, however, have a bit of a problem in this respect.
I find your tone and pace of delivery very steady and therefore easy to follow. I get complimentary images flashing through my mind as I listen, but I do not detach entirely from what is happening or from the knowledge that I am in a Yoga Nidra state. I have sort of waking dreams happening as I listen while still hearing you clearly. I have always assumed that this is my being in the Alpha wave level, although I do not really worry about categorising events while trance-like.
I listened to this as my first Yoga Nidra of the day, at four in the morning here (England). I am the only one awake at that time. I also have an afternoon session at about three, when the house is quiet.
Yet again, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am very glad that you are providing us all with such excellent guidance.
I have just realised that today marks the twelfth year of my sobriety. I am glad that I started it with this meditation. Thank you again. Regards, Bob McGowan.
