There’s an episode of Star Trek: The Original Series that features an “ exotic animal, ” but it’s very clearly just a dog with a horn taped to its head.

Fun fact in one of the saw movies they had destroyed the bathroom set so they had to use the set scary movie 4 made to parody the saw set but nobody noticed

The Daleks were actually made by Terry Nation and still co-owned by his family. At one point he considered pulling them from _Doctor Who_ to sell to a different group for their production, but they were already so iconic he decided against it.

Fun fact: Vulcans were originally going to be bright red and more demon-like in appearance, but they decided not to do that because even though the show was filmed in color, most people had black-and-white TVs, and thus the red wouldn't be visible. Instead of making actors sit through hours of makeup every day for something that most people wouldn't even be able to see, they decided to scrap that idea. They kept the pointy ears, though.

To be absolutely fair to the daleks, there's a certain elegance in their design that has allowed them to age spectacularly compared to other classic Doctor Who monsters of that time. You look back at a Silurian from then and you laugh at the goofy costume. You look back at a dalek from the second ever story and you go "yep, tis a dalek."

Like how star wars just used a bunch of real world WW2 guns as blasters so now every blaster needs that look

In the episode "Troubles and Tribble-ations" of Star Trek: Deep Space 9, the crew ends up time travelling back to the date and location of an episode of the original series. The episode is a crossover mashup thing between original star trek and ds9 full of references and fun tidbits.
Most importantly, the episode includes Klingons as they originally were (and are essentially just some guys), but also includes the character Worf, who is a klingon in the modern style full of makeup and expensive masks, wigs, etc. Worf mentions that it was a "dark time for klingons" and that he "doesn't like talking about it" lol.

It’s even better when you know that Daleks believe they’re perfect in every way and don’t need to be improved

this is where the MCU went wrong. to uphold the tradition of the first avengers movie, you need at least one guy whose costume looks like a cheap party city knockoff

The TOS klingon designs were literally just humans that looked a little weird. The motion picture retconned this and changed the klingons to the design we know today and they actually worked that change into lore too!

Yeah Daleks are iconic. The fact that they haven’t changed much in look is evidence of that.
Cybermen on the other hand. If you’ve never seen what the first cybermen looked like, imagine a cream coloured woolly hat pulled right down over the face with three holes, one for each eye and the mouth and then a colander, part of a torch and some pipes on the head.
This also goes for the voices. Daleks voices have hardly changes but the first cybermen voices !!!

I'm so glad star trek TOS made the list :) you should see the totally-not-a-dog in the enemy within

Barbarian: Bard! Use your magic to heal me!
Bard: On it!
*Heals despite the Barbarian having no obvious healing due to budget constraints*
Barbarian: Thanks!

The Saw bathroom is one of my favorite movie sets BECAUSE they had to recreate it multiple times

There's an episode of classic Doctor Who in which there is actually an inflatable chair monster (made of supposedly sentient plastic)... meaning that a dude had to flail a bunch on top of this sadly deflating inflatable chair to pretend it was eating him...

Despite watching the entire Saw franchise at least 10 times by this point, I have never considered that bathroom layout...

I recently watched the original Star Trek and most of the aliens were basically just humans that claim to be aliens. Painting half of someone’s face black and half white was considered a high effort costume. But then they get a budget and Michael Doran has to spend two hours in a makeup chair getting a horseshoe crab attached to his forehead every episode.

Daleks are an incredible idea though, just design-wise. To an unsuspecting viewer they're hilariously silly-looking, but anyone with even a little grasp on what they really are knows that this thing is in fact a miniature nigh-inpenetrable flying tank that doubles as life support for a creatures that lives to kill and hate. They can be played for comedy just from the virtue of how silly they look and how ridiculously mad they sound all the time, but once you see them in battle you realize that you should be really, really scared of them.
