All around great communication. There are many types of IQ and this man is superior in teaching the art of boxing through body and verbal communication. He has an innate spatial gift, too.

One trick used to learn muscle memory for quick drawing a pistol from it's holster, is to practice in slow motion and very very gradually increase the speed of the draw.  I think this trick would also work for learning to keep your hands up during combos.  Rather than jumping in feet first and full speed, take some time and hit the bag in slow motion.  Slowly go through the movement of throwing a jab and be very conscious of every inch of your body and the proper movement each part of your body should be making and finish the movement with feeling your bag touching your chin like Jason taught us....repeat.  Run through the slow motion movements many times and gradually increase the speed until you're at full speed.

Watching you utilise that left hook on the bag is so satisfying

Am I the only one that felt a kick of adrenaline kick in when he "took a chunk" out of the bag? 😂 Definitely felt nice as hell

Probably the best video out there on hitting a heavy bag. This guy is super clear and has great form. It's clear from the look, speed and sound of those punches he knows what he is talking

The think about if your hand touches the target the other hand is supposed to touch you cheek is a great way to explain.

Hey man great advice. I've been hitting the bag on and off for years but never had any official training. I love what you said about the left and right hooks. I pictured myself taking a chunk out of the bag rather then hitting the side. Power on hook instantly doubled in power!

This is the most usefull video I've seen to date. I've also never heard about aiming for the front of the heavy bag either very useful info :]

I have never had a coach and particularly for bag work but have, for as long as I can remember, been leathering any one that I can find. Always trying to work it properly. I have learned so much in those 6 minutes. Thank you. I am now 46 in really good shape and still love working a bag (only twice a week). Thank you very much for those pointers. Really appreciated.

Good video.  See a lot of young guys dropping their hands and setting themselves up for a counter punch.  Only takes one solid shot to learn the hard way.

Good video. I've done about 4-5 years MMA with boxing involved. After viewing the vid, I throw the same hooks as you, yet some guy came up to me while I was hitting the heavy bag at Retro Fitness telling me I was telegraphing them trying to show me how to do it his way. He seemed to be more concerned with trying to impress females, while he is punching the heavy bag with no gloves or anything on his hands, not so smart.

I met an amateur boxer there & him and I will be working together as he's going to help me improve my boxing as it's the weaker point in my arsenal. I love taking advice and tips from people, and watching videos like JT's, but I have a problem with people coming up to you with an attitude like you're some 10 year old kid.

I do the same thing working from the outside as if the bag is an opponent, practicing a lot of my jabs. JT is right at the end with keeping your other hand up that isn't throwing. I remember when doing focus pads or the heavy bag while training, if we didn't have our hands up, our trainer would come around and smack the hell out of the open area with his glove. This serves a purpose so you don't drop your hands in the ring, or even in a fight out on the street so you don't get ko'd. All it takes is one well placed punch to the face and lights out.

Thanks JT!!!! Once again another quality "user friendly" video! Used the techniques in the video this past week forgot some of the moves so I wrote them down and looked at the moves in between the rounds. Now I have em memorized! This is a solid workout routine. Thanks.

This is incredibly helpful and really pulled together the things my trainer has been telling me. It makes sense now watching you and listening to you explain. Thanks!!!
