The Pendlay row is a great exercise to build your back and improve your technique with other posterior chain movements like deadlifts, RDLs, and cleans. It differs from a traditional row in that you always return the weight to the floor. In this video, I go through the complete set up and movement and show you how to avoid common mistakes.

Good job. Not too wordy and to the point.

Should we bring that bar closer to our shins as with a deadlift to avoid straining the lower back?

But your torso did move? The only time I’ve ever seen these done without a torso moving is with light weight, which defeats the purpose of the power exercise. Even when Greg pendlay teaches it, who this movement is named after, the torso moves a bit, but minimally, and ideally the lumbar stays extended. It’s impossible to do max efforts without so deviation at the hips and knees. It’s a power exercise, the tech won’t be perfectly smooth like an isolated concentration movement
