The key to budgeting is developing one that you won’t break from!

Self-discipline is the most important factor here

What helps me is rounding the figures. For example, if bills are $375 per month - I just say $400.

This takes into account unexpected fees, or spending.

I think the real key is just keeping track of everything. The first month you do a budget, you're probably not going to hit it. So you adjust and try again the second month and get a little bit closer.

You can't learn a new language in a weekend, you can't become an athlete in a week, and you can't finish school in a month. Why would budgeting be any different?

I feel for this guy. I work as a medic. It’s hard to eat right working 12 hour shifts. I recently started a protein shake lunch routine that is saving me a fortune.

If you have uneven paycheques, but a base salary, you should try to live off that base salary. Budget according to your lowest paycheque. Live off that amount. Then when you have more, put 100% of that extra money towards debts or savings.

It is 100% self discipline, I dont even have a written budget that I follow....but able to save 50%+ of income.
It all comes down to what is important in your life for some its fancy new car, big house, impressing the Jonse's...or for some just building wealth for when you are older. You gotta change what is important in your life....cause if mine was fancy cars and expensive items I wouldn't be able to save what I do and I wouldn't be able to retire a multi-millionaire. Now not to say we dont like to travel we spend some money on that as I cherish traveling and experiences over items.

EVERYTHING IS EASY IF YOU VALUE IT ENOUGH. Not to say i find everything easy! So, when I begin to notice my self slacking on my promises, i have to take a sit down and really think about WHY i made the promise in the first place! Then right those reasons down and make a commitment. If i find myself slacking off again a month later, i re-read the values! Self control is under the control of thy self

Great question. Sounds stupid but it’s so common

It's difficult to budget when your income varies. The best thing I found was to just document every little expense and then look back at the previous weeks and months and that allowed me to budget and make realistic goals. It's a skill that takes time to develop and you have to figure out what works for you.

Thanks for another great video Dave self-discipline is key to reaching your money goals and not seeing your budget as something that restricts you but instead empowers you to get to lie the life you want to live. Happy New Year!

Budget for the month with your lowest salary that you have received in the past then when you make a higher amount you can feel good about the extra.
Did you see Dave cut off the cop...ooops 😎

Budgeting is hard in the beginning because you are trying to give every dollar an assignment and all the modifications needed to control the spendings .. but once u master it, it is a blessing.. all he needs to do is not stop trying and stick to the plan. eventually he will get it.. if he didn’t stop trying.

Stick to it or have major regrets later. Set small daily goals and work to achieve them one by one

My husband gets a different check weekly so we have a weekly budget that is a monthly also budget. So like Dave said weekly we have a salary we work with and at the end of the month the extra from the weeks is thrown into a debt or is rolled over for a monthly expense such as dmv property taxes things that do not happen monthly but we need to budget into our yearly budget!

I was literally typing "what about fluctuating budgets" as he was saying it. I've been taking my least monthly payments and budgeting off of that. The remainder goes towards student loans.

I always guess low on my income. And make that work for that amount. The "excess" goes to debt. Or emergency. I'm still training my mind that the excess isn't just play money for me to spend on whatever I want cause that how people and families repeat th cycle of broke.

I have same issue where my paychecks are different amounts so I just budget paycheck per paycheck. Keeps me more intact with my goals and more willingness to not cheat on my budget.

Once he figures, out how easy cooking is, he can easily save 8k a year plus if he saves his overtime that's easily 15k or more . Sacrifice !
