Cooking up Southern charm, one recipe at a time.

My name is Monique, and I started Divas Can Cook back in 2009 when I noticed a shortage of authentic Southern recipes like the kind I made with my grandma in her kitchen. I’m talking about that Elberton, Georgia cooking infused with North Carolina Appalachia flare. (Hey, I’m a Southern mountain girl; what can I say!) Authentic golden fried green tomatoes, hamburger steak, cornbread, biscuits and gravy, forgotten tea cakes, and fresh blueberry cobblers are the recipes that feel like home.

This channel is full of authentic Southern family recipes, recipes that I’ve developed and tweaked to perfection, and a few non-traditional ones sprinkled throughout for good luck. I hope that I will not only build your kitchen confidence, but become a trusted source for go-to Southern recipes for you and your family!

I tried it. I told my family I made homemade biscuits. They had a lack luster attitude because let’s say I’ve never had success with any recipe. But y’all this recipe is everything. I have my new go to recipe! The biscuits were soft and flaky!!! Love, love, love it!!!!❤️

Ok, so I'm 72 and have never made a decent biscuit in my life! As a matter of fact, I gave up trying until now. I used White Lilly flour and WOW! My husband actually went back for more. You have restored my faith in baking. 😁😁😁

For those who don't have time to click links in the description and just need the ingredients (in case you checking your fridge and realize you don't have buttermilk lol)here you go.

2 cups of self rising flour
1 stick of butter
1 cup of buttermilk
FYI-You can also make buttermilk by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar to a cup of( your choice milk) let it sit for about 30 minutes . All purpose flour is ok if you add baking soda and baking powder to your mix depends on preference for dense or fluffy biscuits.

I went to culinary school and my instructor was essentially a master chef, not actually a certified master chef but Had all the requirements just didn’t want to take the time to go and get the certification.

He taught me to make biscuits almost exactly this way, the only difference is i learned 3-2-1 so that’s 3 Cups flour 2 sticks butter 1 cup milk. But all the techniques were exactly as demonstrated here for the most part. The point is not all recipes have to be complicated to be amazing, 3 ingredients biscuits if made properly will be the best biscuits you’ve ever had I can almost guarantee it.

It's my first time ever making biscuits and I'm 53. I used salted butter because I love salted butter in everything but they turned out really good... delicious

I make bread every week but never tried making biscuits before, so I thought why not give it a try. I couldn't believe how good these were and my wife even complimented me on them. This will be my go-to recipe from now on, forget store bought. Thank you for the recipe and you did a great job keeping it sweet and simple.

Had some left over buttermilk in the fridge and didn’t want it to go to waste. Let’s just say bacon, eggs, and buttermilk biscuits with honey butter are on tomorrow morning’s breakfast menu! 😁

I'm not much of a baker, biscuits never worked before. This was EASY. I used.my food processor. Flour on bottom, grater attachment on top. Grated frozen butter in while flour turning. Added buttermilk, Viola! So delicious. TY for recipe ❤

Tip: Grate your stick of refrigerated cold butter and then put it in the freezer for 20-30 minutes. Grating frozen butter is quite a chore if you have arthritis or shoulder problems.

This was amazing! I've never left a review for a recipe, but as a first time biscuit maker (and novice to anything baking wise), your tutorial helped me to nail my second attempt- my first attempt failed miserably, but then I found your channel. I've already been to your blog and will really make use of it (another first for me). Now I'm waiting for my sister to call me back so I can claim bragging rights! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Oh my these are the best, I made these but used 3 cup of self rising flour, 1 and 1. I had to add a little bit more of buttermilk. Oh my it was so good! I did twist when cutting but I didn't read that until I was baking still Delicious thank you, I'm 70 and my first time making a biscuit!
