Ultimate 20 Minute Elliptical Workout

Ellipticals are great for those looking to achieve an intense, low impact, calorie burning, cardio workout. With the ability to add resistance and involved your upper body while using the full range of motion handlebars, you can create a unique workout experience that can help you move towards your health and fitness goals. Ellipticals also don’t take much time to get used to. This can cause workouts to become stale. We created this workout to help you focus on increasing your speed, resistance, and maximum effort during this complete 20-minute workout to help break up your normal everyday cardio workouts. Follow along with Sunny trainer, Matt, as he guides your through each workout block. If you are looking for an extended version of this workout, just repeat your favorite blocks to add an additional 5 minutes to your workout length.

Workout details:

Warm: 2 mins

Get comfortable on your machine while using a moderate resistance (25% of your machines resistance) at a quick pace to increase your blood flow and prime your body for the rest of the workout.

Workout Blocks: 15 mins

Speed Block: 25% resistance

2 minutes @ 6-7 RPE
2 minutes @ 8-10 RPE + speed
1-minute recover @ 1-2 RPE

Resistance Block: 75% resistance

2 minutes @ 6-7 RPE
2 minutes @ 8-10 RPE
1-minute recover @ 1-2 RPE

Max Effort Block: 50% + resistance at a faster pace

2 minutes @ 6-7 RPE
2 minutes @ MAX RPE
1-minute recover @ 1-2 RPE

*repeat blocks if a longer workout is desired*

Cool Down: 3 mins
@ 1-2 RPE

Dude, I've been working this 4 days a week since mid October and I'm getting stronger! I had a heart attack 6 years ago and really need this cardio to build endurance for horseback riding. Thank you!

In the opening moments of this workout, however, to those with ellipticals capable of measuring speed in miles per hour you recommend a speed of 16mph, perhaps even 18mph. With my machine and its 20" stride length, 16mph equates to nearly 845 strides per minute, and 18mph requires 950 strides per minute. My rough estimate based on your video is that at your top speed, you're producing in the neighborhood of 165-170 strides per minute. Stride rates necessary to produce 16-18mph rates are obviously not possible, so I'm confident you meant to refer to different speed targets. Can you offer a revision?

It took me a few goes to know the full resistance of my machine, follow all the instructions and work out my max effort but today I managed to get all the way through and it felt great. I want to get to the point I can do it twice through, maybe even thrice 😃

I loved the workout. I wasn't able to follow resistance level. I did see the description below. Will try to follow that. I think I am more visual person. Wish you put resistance level in the video. But thank you for your effort.
