Too often our medical treatments "manage" type 2 diabetes. But we can and should do better. A new paper calls to attention how we should be fighting to reverse type 2 diabetes or put it into remission. The best part is that we don't need expensive drugs to do it. We can do it with diet. Here's what we have to say about this important paper.

To date my T2D has been in remission for over 3.5 years. This is all due to my consistency with a very low carb (real food) diet. It is the easiest and most doable diet I've ever done. It's also the last diet I will ever try. No way would I consider going back to eating the crap franken-foods that everyone considers 'normal.' That perception of normal is a construct of corporate manipulation, marketing, and tradition. Thank you to team Diet Doctor for all the work you do!

PS I'll add that I was a T2D for over 25 years. I worked my way up from the pills, to long and short, to U500 insulin. I had developed stage 3 CKD with a kidney filtration of 40%. I had also gained and enormous amount of weight to 518 lbs. I was able to wean off all diabetic meds in my 1st 3 weeks of keto. I've kept an A1C of about 5.0 for the last few years. Most recent test was 4.9. Over some months my kidney function quickly doubled and has stayed over 80% ever since. And, to date I've lost 200 lbs. I still need to drop 100 more but this WOE has given me the tools to do it. I just turned 65 and have gone from homebound and miseralbe to a 2nd chance at life and loving it!

I'm proof of this. 1.5 years ago, I was diagnosed with T2D. Changed my diet to low carb with intermittent fasting and exercised more. Dropped 70lbs and now gone 9 months of clean check ups and 3 months since I took any medication.

5 years in remission. From HbA1c of 6.7 % to 5.4%; 22 kg less since the first year. No pills. Thanks to Diet Doctor Team and people involved in the low carb approach

I beat my alcohol addiction, lost 65 lbs, and I've been reversed since 3 months after my diagnosis.
It didn't take the gym - just consistent walking and low carb/low calorie to get the weight off. Don't hit the gym when you're rapidly losing weight - you will get hungry and it will be harder.
Low carbs, no alcohol, staying active by going on walks. It's possible, folks! You can do it!

I love seeing this. Sadly, the medical field and my colleagues are still pushing that diabetes is not reversible to their patients! Most of the work I do with my clients when reversing type 2 is mindset...convincing them it can be done (because they have been told for years it cannot) and controlling their fear of getting scolded by their doctor for wanting something better for themselves. Bravo!!!!

Don't you find it odd that low-carb is never credited with reverse/remission because "it's only reversed as long as you follow the way-of-eating" but it's never said that "you're only diabetic as long as you keep following the SAD/recommended healthy diet" 🤔

Waiting for my test results.
My father was diagnosed 18 months ago with T2D, he was able to reverse his condition through cutting sugars and being more active (he walks a lot). He's been off medication and in normal a1c range for the past 12 months.
He has become my inspiration to lose weight and be healthy.

There is hope
ADA says low carb is a treatment option. Tell your doctor.
ADA president Tracy Brown publicly stated she is low carb.
My new endocrinologist who is very young knows all about low carb. He was happily excited when it happened I saw him once five days into a fast.

T2D reversed for three years so far. Whole food healthy fat, healthy protein very-low-carb diet. No sugars, no grains, no seed oils. I'm healthier than I was 20 years ago.

Excellent - this video and the previous one are perfect. Diet Doctor you are making a huge difference keep doing what you are doing. I just love being a supporter of you all. LIfe changing information indeed. As a Path Assistant, I would welcome fewer toes, fingers, and leg amputations to gross in. Let's get diabetes off the chronic disease list folks. You can do it!!!!

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1970. For years my diet made my body insulin-resistant and in some ways it was as if I had type 2 diabetes only with the insulin provided by injection rather than a fully functional pancreas. Eating low-carbohydrate has been a big help.

I'm glad the word is spreading about this. I just found out what insulin resistance is a few months ago, and it has been eye-opening!

Congrats to all the low-carb physicians! Deprescribing meds is a win for everybody - patients, practitioners, and the healthcare system.

Great video. The education need to start in health class in elementary school. Kids need to realize what they are eating, what it could possible do to them and how to read labels. Show and tell with a diabetic using their Dexcom and Omnipod might make an impression.

My humble suggestion for every diabetic person to make a commitment that he will educate his near fellows to protect them dangers of diabetes. This approach will save millions of people becoming diabetic.

100% agree, Doc's do just that check your glucose and more exercise, see you in 3 months. You know if it were that easy I would have done already. We need support.

I successfully reversed my T2 diabetes two years ago with very low carb/keto, intermittent fasting and more exercise. My a1c is now 5.2 without meds. My question is just whether the beta cells can really ever fully recover?

Yes, LCHF diet IS the answer. I was pre-diabetic, taking statin drugs & still suffered a heart attack. Now 15 months eating & living a LCHF lifestyle I'm finally heathy, don't have any inflammatory symptoms & my Triglycerides are @ 66.
Yes, Diabetes can be reversed without drugs!
