How to FIX a Muscle Imbalance

If you want to fix a muscle imbalance here’s what you need to do. First choose an exercise you can do unilaterally, or one at a time, so like single arm curls, cable chest flys, split squats, and stuff like that, and always start your set on your weaker side. Then count the amount of reps you do on that side, and do the exact same amount on your stronger side. Take each set close to failure, and just make sure each rep is slow and controlled, and you should be able to fix it quickly.

Honestly, I had quite crappy imbalances starting off, but I just kept working out as normal and it balanced itself out. As long as you're excersising to faliure with good form evenly on both sides, the weaker side will catch up. There's only so far your muscles can grow naturally. To each their own though, we're all different. This is just what worked for me. My fear with this advice was creating new imbalances.

Alternative: On a set, work the stronger side to failure but not beyond. Then, work the weaker side, pushing to get that rep # with “beyond failure” techniques (partial reps, forced negatives, etc). Much better for me than not working the stronger side to failure.

Also, if you carry on growing both sides of the same muscle group. As the muscles get bigger they slow down in how fast they carry on growing so you will eventually balance out even by training normally after a long period of time

Thanks dude! My left hand is slightly weaker than my right, everytime I do pushups, my right hand is the stronger so i try to push up from my left hand.

I usually do a few more sets of unilateral chest excersices (usually cables, seated unilateral press machine, etc) for my imbalanced right pec. So like, if I do 4x12 cable flys, at the end I'll do an extra set working only my right side. Then same thing on the press machine, and do that for 2 or 3 isolation excercises. Or just do 3 extra sets for a finisher of cables, for example, it depends on how crowded the gym is and all that stuff.
I used to swim competitively and breathed more to the left side, so my upper body got bigger on the left. The rest was fixed with just gym training but the pecs are needing a bit more focus :D

muscle imbalances generally happen because other part is less mobile than the other. mobility exercises before doing barbell work worked out for me

Thank you, man. I’ve jus started working out a few weeks ago, and I was really excited to see results since before I was working out, I was relatively skinny. But, a few weeks in, I started to realize one arm was bigger than the other, and I thought I was doing something wrong with my workouts. Thank you, man. This helps a lot.

Ur body is smart if u exercise normally as u do but in perfect form, ur body will fix muscle imbalance.

I had almost perfect muscle balance and then I broke my wrist. Now I’m back at square one trying to get my right arm back up to the same strength as my left. Keep up the good work bros 😤

I do the opposite. I pick the stronger side and hold your weaker side to the same standard

My right arm is stronger but smaller and my left arm was bigger and weaker.
