4 Ways to Fix ANY Muscle Imbalance (science-based)

Muscle imbalances are pretty common. We all have muscle imbalances to some degree. Sometimes these imbalances are so obvious you can see them. For example, one arm or leg is often bigger and stronger than the other because we are either right or left-handed. Sometimes they are less obvious but they can have severe consequences.

When one set of muscles is stronger and larger, or weaker and smaller, than a corresponding set of muscles, then you have an imbalance. Muscle imbalances can lead to an uneven physique, impaired performance, joint instability, reduced mobility, nagging pain, and even full-blown injuries.

Muscle imbalance can not only increase injury risk, affect the aesthetics of your physique, and lead to faulty joint mechanics but, they can also impact the quality of your training. If you have significant muscle imbalances, you won’t properly stabilize joints or produce maximal force. This will limit the loads you can handle in the gym and impede your size and strength gains.

So, the question is - what can you do to fix muscle imbalances from hindering you?

In this video we go over four sure-fire fixes for muscle imbalances.

Skateboarding for 12 years has such an imbalance throughout my entire body. Back chest and my legs. Working on finding enough exercises to put a routine together for balance and performance over strength as the main focus. I'd like to get stronger but in the right way and healthiest way possible. Ensure longevity and prevention of injury's

I have a simpler method. I let the weak side decide the reps for both sides. Yes, then you will get little gains on the strong side, until the weak side has catched up. But that’s fine.

Thank you for these tips. I have Major imbalances due to a work injury and it’s very frustrating and discouraging. I am definitely going to try the one extra set for weak side (embarrassed that I didn’t think of that lol). Keep the awesome content coming!

Used to work out a lot and was really strong. I let myself go for years and am now back at the gym and A LOT Weaker, but the Crazy Muscle imbalance I have strength-wise Freaked me out. I was doing dumbbell presses and my left would give out and my right can Easily pump out 10 extra reps, To me that is SEVERE but I think it is due more to the Tricep than the chest but it is both. So thank you for this advice that I will apply immediately. I think I will start with just stopping my set when the left fails and then adding an extra set at the end while using negatives as well.

My right arm is significantly stronger than my left arm after years of labor jobs, always using my dominant for most things, like pulling/pushing a dollie with heavy boxes, operating a ride on power jack with my right arm, painting. I never had the energy to work out after a day of work like a lot of people did because I literally used every last bit of energy I had working

4:40 I would suggest you to match the reps from weaker side to stronger side, by this you won't be overtraining the stronger side and saves enough energy for effective weak side training.

Nobody can be perfectly symmetrical or they’d not be human, least we can do our best not to make it worse or minimize the asymmetry through mindful lifting 💪

I'm glad I watched this video.
My right bicep is a half-inch bigger than my left, and it can also do about 4 more reps... pretty unbalanced.

My right arm is a bit bigger than my left arm, but I have the feeling that the strengt in my left arm is just as strong and even a bit stronger
