In the gym there are so many dumbbells, not many barbells, so I love to do hammer curls even if it’s a little lighter than normal. If it is lighter I do it slower and more controlled, heavier I pop the weight but go slow on the way down. For barbell same thing, and I like barbell but if it ain’t available, we got another option

For those wondering, brachialis is under the biceps and curls your arm when your hand is not supinated (reverse curl). Brachioradialis is in the forearm and connected to the radius, meaning it can supinate and pronate your hand, and can curl in a neutral position (hammer curl)

Edit: It appears that brachialis is the hammer curl and brachioradialis is the reverse curl. Apologies

Hammers target a little bit of forearm, a lot of brachialis and a little bit of biceps.
Reverse curls fully target the main forearm muscles and the brachialis, but almost completely neglect the biceps.
Basically, it's better to do both. Or choose one according to your goals or the muscles you want to hit during your session.

I'm doing both. Reverse curl hits different because you'll feel the burn in your forearms.

I do what I call a trio, I do a regular curl, then a hammer curl then a reserve curl and I keep doing that

They are two completely different exercises even if they are curls. Reverse curl has the highest isolation for the long head of the bicep and then works forearm’s muscles; while the hammer curl will target the forearm’s brachialis primarily (as it is the most involved muscle in elbow flexion) and accessorily while it does not isolate one of the bicep’s head, it mainly involves two (diving the work) and limit one of them (I think it was the short head but I am not sure anymore)
