I have a severe retention problem. The best method I learned for my particular case is to read the first and last lines in a paragraph, and then the middle. I found I enjoy reading more and retain 50-75 % more. 👍😁

Back then in elementary school, my parents took me to my head teacher, they told her I couldn't read then she took the mantle of teaching me how to read. At first i was a slow reader plus i always use my index finger to follow and read out the line i was reading, but unfortunately that woman (the head teacher) beat ths shit out of me for reading while using my finger to point out what i was reading... Long story short, i was flogged my way out of reading with my finger pointing at the text... But here i am in an aha moment 😅

I will add this to my current technique to read/comprehend faster which is wear a bucket hat to cut out visual distractions from eyes and listen to brown noise while reading to cut out audio distractions

Using the Natural reader app... There, you can copy and paste the entire text and activate the subtitles. The important point is that a line appears and the application highlights the word it is currently passing over, you focus more because just as it's said in the audio our eyes fixate on what moves. Plus, your hands stay free.But of course, this only works for books or content in digital format.

To prevent backskip, I put my finger on the left side of the page as a mark of the lines I already read, and most of the time I only move it by paragraph or after a few lines. Sometimes line by line but only when I need to look for something specifically. IMO moving your fingers along the words is very distracting as an adult now.

WHAT? Okay maybe I'm missing something. I've been speed reading since childhood, and using your finger to do it? Nope. Does he mean this is a way for some to begin to learn how then?

My reading is so slow and I'm so grateful for this. but will I now need to be dependent on using my my finger to read or will you naturally just become a faster reader from this? Thank you for all you do Jim!
