One question: HOW THE HELL DO YOU READ WITHOUT READING WITH AN INNER VOICE?

I have 2 issues with reading, the first problem is that I read slow. The second problem is that I get awfully sleepy. Well it also leads into a third problem - I lose concentration.

this is what i do to absorb information from a book in a day.
1. grab any book
2. burn it with fire until it turn into ashes
3. put the ashes into a glass of water
4. drink it
5. meditate

Top tips I found to speed up reading:

1. Don't read a book cover to cover! Don't waste your time reading every sentence on every page. Publishers add a load of fluff to flesh out the book. Know why you're reading.
2. Read the back cover, intro, and any Tedtalks or short youtube videos that summarise the main concept so you're not going in blind.
3. Read the contents page and highlight chapters you think will interest you.
4. Go to the chapters you've highlighted and start skim reading the text. Circle/highlught any important subheadings, diagrams etc. Spend 10 seconds/page on this.
5. Now go back and start scanning the sections you've just circled in the last step. Underline keywords and figures. Spend 30 seconds/page on this step.
6. Now start speedreading:
a) To stop becoming passive as you read, you should ask yourself questions as you read - like 'what's the main idea here?' Use something like a credit card to block your view of what you've just read - when you know you only get to read it once, the stakes are higher.
b) Don't mouth the words - put the tip of your tongue on to the roof of your mouth to stop you doing this.
c) Use a pen or your finger to point at the text as you read. Increase the speed of movement of the pen/finger to help you read faster. This stops you getting fixated on words and keeps things moving.
d) Don't look at the first one/two words at the start and end of every sentence - use your peripheral vision.
e) Split the page into the three vertical sections with a pencil. Read only the middle one or two words in each of the three sections and use your peripheral vision to read the rest. If it's an ebook, reading on your phone will be the same as around one third of a normal print page anyway, so read using your peripheral vision - don't read the last one-two words on either side of the screen.
f) If it's a large paragraph, read the first one-two lines and the last one-two lines and decide if it's worth reading the whole paragraph or not.
g) Use a tool like Reedy - it's a free chrome extension similar to Speeder (which used to be free). You'll need to copy-paste your text online somewhere to use it (I use any online grammar checking tool, they always have a feature that enables you to enter text).

Buy the Physical Book, buy the audio book version. Turn the audio speed to X2.5, follow the words. Works for me every time.

As far as reading is concerned. I really value understanding what I'm reading, whether I read slow or fast the goal is always to understand the contents of a book completely.

Thank you so much! I really wasn't sure if speed reading was even possible, but now I realize that it is and that you are totally right!
