How to actually read faster:

Place your finger underneath the word you are reading, make sure the finger is moving to each new word as you read.

Once you have done this for several pages, move the finger a little bit faster.

After many pages, about 50 pages, move the finger even faster.

As long as your eyes are keeping pace with your finger, you will slowly begin to read much faster than ever before.

My new technique is to read without internally speaking the words, more so for books with extreme detail. I'm not massive into having evey inch explained. I like the general image and let my mind build the rest. So I simply read without thinking, take a break every once in a while (usually every chapter or so) to make sure my brains taking it in, I'll think over what I've read, then continue.

My advice,
Skim read if it's too boring. Read it realllly fast, skimming over words, and once you've finished a chapter recall what happened in that chapter. Do this for the rest of the book.
