Maybe the best question would be “does this glorify God?” and let that be the reference we use for all manner of speech.

Colossians 3:8
“But now rid
yourselves [completely] of all these
things: anger, rage, malice, slander,
and obscene (abusive, filthy, vulgar)
language from your mouth.”

"Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be." -James 3:10

It’s a part in the Bible where Paul talks about Christians should have clean mouth

“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”

You could argue that cursing when you hurt yourself (like stubbing your toe) shows a lack of self control, which is supposed to be a fruit of the spirit

I think it has more to do with the emotion it’s invoking from you. If I swear in frustration even when alone, it’s not edifying to my soul to do so. It leaves me feeling worse than if I just forgave, or moved on without cursing.

Not using swearwords is a small way that we separate ourselves from the rest of the world and let the light shine though. I've had people actually notice that you're not using dam and f-bombs whenever something doesn't go your way. Some people take it too far the other way too and consider basically any angry expression as a swearword. I need something besides ouch say when I stub my toe.

The words are not inherently evil. The reason most Christians are taught not to is to be "set apart." Most Christians forget this applies to not only swear words though. This applies to most things said in anger or even gossiping. It's more to teach people to think about what they say and to recognize that what you say can affect your testimony.

The people who say cursing is evil are the same people that will say things like "bless your heart" as an insult against someone. What's worse: using a word used to describe feces, or using something that should be a blessing to insult someone instead?

Swear words are only considered bad because of what the American culture made them to be. Russians have swear words in their language but it is not looked upon as a “sin” and something horribly bad in their culture. Culture plays a really important role in the topic.

What comes from the mouth flows from the heart. We should keep negative words far from us to speak life into one another.

Colossians 3:8, don’t use filthy communication. For me, it’s easy to see that swear words fall into this category.

Everyone swears at some point in their lives.

As someone who admittedly cusses myself sometimes, I have heard another Christian on YT use the argument that swear words are an attempt to fit in with the world. Also, wouldn’t swear words fit under the category of unwholesome speech?

I have a no swearing rule on my livestreams. It's a lifestyle choice for me and my family.
