Is Cursing a SIN for Christians?

Is cursing a sin for Christians? Or are these merely manmade words that are not found in the Bible and therefore man has assigned meaning to them making it not a big deal to use these words? In this video I'll explore whether or not it is a sin for Christians to curse and whether or not it's appropriate to use these words. In addition, I'll address what the Bible says as it relates more to how we use our mouths in general.

Is it a sin for Christians to curse? What are your thoughts about this?

The first question we ask about anything shouldn’t be “is this a sin”, but rather, “Does this honour and glorify God?” ✝️🙏😊

For me I had the mouth of a sailor before I got saved. Even God’s name in vain which I’m very remorseful for. Now the Holy Spirit just doesn’t allow me to swear much. It slips sometimes, but I try my best 🙂

One thing I know for sure is that my parents raised me not to curse, so even if it wasn't a sin, I will still honour my parents by not cursing

This was really good. I will never forget an incident when I was eleven years old. I was at a store with my mother. A woman who was walking in the same aisle as us accidentally knocked a glass object off the shelf, and it fell on the ground and shattered. The woman was visibly upset and she said the S word. Being an innocent kid who went to Christian school and almost never heard anyone cuss (this was early 90's, so that kind of language wasn't quite as "normalized" as it is today), I was horrified. But my mom was so gentle and asked, "Are you okay? Let me help you clean that up, " and she helped the woman scoop up the glass. She offered to pay for the object, but the store manager said it was okay. The woman who had cussed humbly thanked my mom. That was a real example to me about how to treat others, instead of acting shocked when they used language we might not think is the best. I still don't like profanity, but God used that incident to teach me how to react toward those who use it.

It’s hard (and admittedly addicting) being a former 7 year Marine, Pastor Allen. But God really did convict me about it earlier this morning. Keep me in prayer, please.

You summed it up great!! It’s like Ruslan has said before, you can curse someone out without even using a cuss word. We need to check our intentions and use our words to build and bring glory back to God. Thanks for this. I may need to do a video on this soon.

it’s not just curse words we need to look after but rather, everything we say. We must be accountable for every word that comes out of our mouths including careless ones.

I hardly ever swear, but it does fascinate me somewhat how, from many Christian perceptions, you can say things like "bummer" or "dang", but not "sh**" for instance. From what the Bible seems to say, it would appear that you should either be allow to say any of these (provided that it's not used as a means of directly or inadvertently offending someone) or none of them at all. The idea though that some curse words are ok and some are not I think is really something you can only attribute to our own social rules, not the Bible (at least in regards to words that don't carry an inherently derogatory meaning towards anyone)

Cussing is one of the first things I cut out of my life when I committed myself to Christ. I felt it was an immediate and obvious change that others would take notice of that I can use as an opportunity to point to Christ.

I used to curse like a trucker lol. I said all the words you mentioned and many more, like it was a second language. I have been saved almost 2 years and although I don't curse like I used to, praise God He has helped me with it, I on rare occasions curse, makes me feel really bad. This was a good video, thanks!

Please pray for my mother. She definitely struggles with this. I guess she’s used to doing it 🙏🏽🙏🏽.
