InPresence 0042: Parapsychologist Stephan A. Schwartz

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Having both run a Metaphysics and Eastern Philosophy bookstore (best sellers included 'Be Here Now' and your 'Roots of Consciousness') and having taken a degree in Philosophy (focusing on Ethics and the later linguistic Wittgenstein) I can say that Metaphysics in all of its meanings is still of interest to me. Thank you Jeffrey. As a further note I earlier today ran down an original Thinking Allowed where Robert Anton Wilson was your guest. That I still resonate deeply with him (sold the 'Cosmic Trigger' at the same time as the others I mentioned) certainly points at my comfort with uncertainty. By the way my favorite Wittgenstein work is 'On Certainty'.

Stephan Schwartz's conversion experience as a successful and up and coming young man where he saw himself in the mirror at a party with the avant guard elite (Capote, Warhol, etc.) in NY then heard himself say that he was becoming an ugly person was no less than the grace of God. If only that happened to more young people in similar circumstances. No doubt he was exceedingly handsome for, he still is ... or, more accurately,  he is a bright and beautiful soul.

Funny in a sense, that I as a 50 year old "seeker" never have heard of Stephan, although I consider my self pretty well read in the subject.

This is why your channel is so good and important, as you bring th community together by presenting these people that have devoted their lives on this, not so financially rewarding, subject.

Also that you act as a filter, as there are a lot of "bull" out there. :-)

I have found Stephan to be a very good teacher. In fact, at glidewing.com you can find a course called "Opening to the Infinite" which he authored. I took it last year, and, although I still haven't much developed my skills in the way he taught, the content was very complete, and Stephan made himself quite available to discussions of the material and practices. I also like "the Schwartz Report" (for what my opinion might be worth), and I, too, appreciate the breadth and the depth of the topics.
As far as the development of non-local consciousness (or the awareness of it, perhaps) goes, I think that the intrusion of logical, rational conjecture and thinking are the greatest stumbling blocks to the accurate perception of those experiences. If I'm not mistaken, quite a number of your guests have made that point. On the other hand, sometimes it might be more appropriate to focus on local consciousness as the milieu for meaningful communication.
I have found that I can listen to some of your interviews over and over to squeeze out all the available juice. Have you thought about creating a written, cross-referenced index of the information alluded to in the conversations? A written format is sometimes more time-efficient, and I can imagine the project's growing into an interactive encyclopedia of research into the topics you like to discuss.

Jeffrey, I just watched a video about Leonora Piper presented by a Spiritualist named Ben Cox. He mentions early on that William James has come through in several seances he's had. Assuming he's correct, I wonder if there's a way that could happen and you could still be the reincarnation of William James?

I have a lot of respect for Schwartz as a truth-seeker, he does a huge amount of research, he is not afraid to say what he believes, and he has published very interesting books about pre-history and DMT. Unfortunately I won't be buying any of his books in future because I heard him talking about white privilege in a recent radio interview, and I certainly wouldn't want to spend dirty money on his work.

More politics, I'm out. The Schwartz report has frequent holocaust articles, but says nothing about the many bad actions of Israel today or how they are marching us towards ww3. Too bad you had to get into politics, I had enjoyed these very much.
