Simple Tip To Reduce Nerves BEFORE A Presentation

Whether you're giving a public speaking presentation at school, work or for an entire room full of 1000s of people, this is the simplest advice I could give to reduce your nerves.

Walk the stage.

Because when you become more familiar with anything, you become more comfortable and therefore less nervous! So walk the "stage" and become more familiar with where you're presenting and how to use your space, so when it comes to the real thing, you're more confident!

1) walk the stage and get familiar with the environment
2) A great way to get into the present is to start counting 1 to 100 backwards
3) Assume that most people in the audience are encouraging you- doesn't matter if it's not the case
4) Avoid eye contact with people who are giving negative vibes. Instead focus on a a few postive people in the crowd
5) Be shameless

Love how the best advice doesn't need to be insanely deep, it can just make lots of sense

Even better if you could rehearse your entire presentation on stage beforehand.

Exactly, that's what I do. I move all over in order to restrain my nerves from being too conscious with myself. And it works. As I move, I become more confident in speaking.

Great advice! Also make sure you know which parts of the stage are illuminated! A lot of stages have 1-2- metres that are not covered by the spotlights. Usually everyything behind the curtain is safe.

You’re more ready when you feel you’re not than when you actually think you are. Life’s about having fun, you don’t rule how you play your guitar, so just fall in love with why you’re doing it and let life take you for a ride, it’s your stage, no reason to be afraid. They came for you, so welcome them just like you’d your content, and have fun.

This also rings true if you are, let's say, a photographer at an upcoming event or you are going to be simply mingling among people.

If you as the photographer is able to get a feel for the environment you're photographing in beforehand, you're already familiar with the environment and is then able to act from the information and "feel" of the place you have gathered prior.
Therefore you might also have prepared some interesting conversation starters about the environment you're about to be in.

I gotchu, next time I'm in class, taking about why elephants are essential for the environment, I will walk around the class. Plus I'm super familiar with the class. I'll tell you how it goes tomorrow....

Hello Vinh! Fell in love with your content as it resonates so much with me. Your enthusiasm for all things public speaking and communication underscoring these aspects of storytelling that are integral to the human experience.

I'm an aspiring public speaker and am clueless as to how to grow my professional career and start earning some public speaking gigs. How/where can I start?

Hi Vinh, I have a question for you. What is your best piece of advice for when you have to give a speech on an unfamiliar topic with limited amount of prep time? Especially when the speech must be given memorized?
