We adopted a "Texas Street Dog" - when she was a puppy we were guessing lab/rat terror mix... Well if those DNA test are reliable she is:
Maternal Side: 1/2 Belgian Malinois (BM) 1/2 German Sheppard
Paternal Side: Cocker Span, Pit, Chow Chow, and Super Mutt...
She is slightly smaller than our lab - has the same yellow coat as our lab... looks very much like the BM.
She is supper agile, fast, (people at the park always ask if she is a Grey Hound because of how fast she can get going...) and she is very friendly at the dog park - but will not turn down an argument should one present itself - she is fearless - our Lab tries the I'm going to ignore you approach to dog arguments....
She is very sweet at home and is OK with a lot of down time - thank god for this!
Thankfully, she has not taught herself how to climb the chain link fence...when this happens out neighbor's chickens are done for. And she will no doubt tangle with the coyotes...
At retirement - I'm strongly thinking about raising a Belgian... great fun dogs!

Its all in training them, and spending time with the Belgians they are awesome dogs. Start with fetching a ball, then give them different commands to perform if they want the ball back

Love my Ruby to pieces, super smart, loyal and protective. You must give them time and training. Once they realize you are in charge they become very loving and look up at you as their leader.😊

Great description of this awesome breed which I totally fell for like 30 years ago.
Unfortunatelly Malinois became "popular" so many inexperienced people get them and them dogs end in shelter because people are unable to handle them. That is probably the worst thing what could happen to Malinois, they're very, very loyal to their leader. So I repeat and repat ad nauseam everywhere: THINK not twice, BUT 1000x TIMES before you get one.

Breeding and early socialization are extremely important. As puppies they need to be taken every where you can take them. If not properly socialized and exposed to many new things it may be nearly impossible to take them out in public when they are adults.

Mine developed MMM at a year and i’m in my own private hell. This could happen with any dog tho. He’s impossible to take to the vet he has to be sedated with injectibles for the vet to examine him. He’s 85 lbs and strong as hell and after 6 months of prednisone it seems he may be out of remission. Prednisone makes him have to pee all hours of the night. At home he’s the most loving loyal dog i’ve ever owned. He keeps me in shape and you can forget about sleeping in with these dogs. So yes think twice. And that goes for any dog but this breed is extreme and energized 24/7.
