For a damaged skin barrier which is some of the many forms of acne, psoriasis, and eczema the answer is petroleum jelly preferably Vaseline brand. Many of the other products she mentioned are good but the ingredients can cause irritation because the barrier is compromised. The molecule of petroleum jelly is too large to enter the skin. It is also volatile meaning it doesn't sink into skin, it instead eventually evaporates into the air. Volatile sounds bad but its actually good when it comes to skin. Natural oils and butters penetrate the upper layers of skin. Many moisturizer ingredients penetrate the upper layers as well. If you skin barrier is damaged, those thongs can wreak more havoc and even cause allergies and bad reactions. Lanolin, shea butter and other ingredients that may be considered great for the skin aren't all that great when the skin barrier is compromised. Many skin ailments are supposed to be healed from the inside anyway. A person grows new skin cells from the inside. Vaseline protects what's compromised from the outside. I hope this helps.

I appreciate you keeping it real, regardless of what people comment or think. I still love and use the Hawaiian Tropic Weightless Hydration Face SPF. It feels like moisturizer and doesn’t burn my eyes like most do. I love the smell of it. I also still use and love the NYX Lingerie lipliner in Embellishment, sadly they discontinued it.

I also consider that 50 is not really middle age as the average life expectancy is around 79 or 80. That means 39 to 40 is more mid in age. I think because we look young at that age we don’t think about it that way.

Always a struggle for me when I end up with irritation. Because all of the fixes like Vaseline or diaper creams help the irritation but they make my acne worse.

My mom always used vaseline for any irritation. If we got burned or had a blister she put vaseline or Penaten cream on us.

The Cicaplast baume repaired my skin barrier within a week. I love it so much and can only highly recommend it. I even use it every single night a moisturiser by now. Thanks, Dr. Dray! I feel as though you were speaking to me directly because I put something on my neck last night that caused a burning red patch. It hurt so much it kept me up all night from the pain. This morning I did put some baby diaper rash ointment (triple paste zinc ointment) and it helped a lot. I think it may have been from a cream with a lot of ceramides and other ingredients that my skin is not used to.
