I have dry & sensitive skin. My skin easily get very dry & irritated.
So, i have been using a gentle cleanser with niacinamide (double cleansing at night) then hydrating toner then serum for skin barrier that contains panthenol 5% and mugwort +cica. It really helps a lot. My skin feel moistured & soothed, not easily dried out or freaking out.😊

When my skin barrier was broken. The signs were a bit different. I have a normal to oily skin type. But when my skin barrier was broken, there was overproduction of oil. Around 15 minutes after washing my face and you may want to scrape the oil off to cook some egg. The redness was also around my nose since I don't have any facial rosacea. But the breakout was horrible. My last biggest pimple is just 1 day old, then I would start growing 10 new pimples. It was also hard to go out on a sunny day because I can easily feel the heat penetrating through my skin and my skin was starting to thin as if I am losing elasticity.
I did the following to fix my skin barrier:
1. I stopped using facial washes and started using Johnson's baby milk bath on my face instead. I've heard that a lactic acid based skin products work better.
2. I stopped cleansing during the day. I only cleansed at night and only washed my face with nothing but water during the day and every time I was feeling oily or sticky.
3. I started using sunscreen. SPF 50 PA+++
4. I stopped using anything else on my face except for what was mentioned above.
Conclusion. My skin barrier was fully restored in less than a month. The first time I noticed a great change was only within 3 days where my oiliness would start 2 hours after I washed my face and my breakouts also lessened. In 1 week, my breakouts were heavily reduced, the redness around my nose was also completely gone. I continued doing so and my skin started to become supple and hydrated instead of the usual oily but cracking. In less than a month, I stopped having breakouts and would only have 1 or 2 pimples at a time. I also started experiencing having days with no pimples.
Skin care for some people may actually mean less is better. So if you think you've tried so many things yet nothing worked. Then try doing almost nothing.

I have acne and I tried different products to lessen it. I tried retinol, but damn that was the worst decision ever. They said it will become worse before it gets better. But I only got the worst part. Im having pimples on my hair line, jaw and chin area which I dont usually have. I used it for about 3 months then stopped. After a month of stopping retinol my skin keeps on getting worse. After washing my face it feels very dry and very very itchy. My face is super red. Then I decided to go to a dermatologist. She said my skin barrier is broken and the first thing she addresed is the itching and redness. She asked me to drop everything that Im using. She made a skincare routine for me, from facial wash to the serum that I will be using. And only after a week the itchiness and redness subsided 😊 (Cica serums indeed calmed by irritated skin). Im still having acne that's why she decided to put me on accutane. It was a big decision for me and it helped a lot on my acne. And im on my 3rd month now 😊.

I went through the exact same thing last month but I didn’t suspect that it’s due to my skin barrier since my skin didn’t feel flaky or dry.. this went on for like 3 weeks

I’d get a few cystic pimples per day and my highest count was 12 active pimples at one go! I knew this is not normal so I cut out everything (sugary food, dairy, vitamins) and stopped using actives. A few days later, no new acne, and my the current ones are healing nicely.

Perfect timing. This is exactly what I’m going through right now. Can u recommend a moisturizer? Should I discontinue tretinoin during this time? Can u talk about why our skin barrier is damaged / broken so we can prevent it? Love ur content n thank u.

My skin is extremely damaged because I didn't know it was damaged so I doubled down on the exfoliants and actives for weeks- which made my skin almost fall off. Lol
Anyways, now I'm using multiple toners, serums, moisturizers that have barrier healing ingredients and finishing it with Vaseline. Or should I simplify that too?

I have dry sensitive skin so I went and bought glycolic acid & hyaluronic acid from the ordinary. It thought it wasn't working since my face became too oily for my liking so I stopped using any and just stick to regular face wash with salicylic acid. After a few days my face had never been better it was so smooth and no breakout. The dry patches are gone too. Still have enlarged pores on my nose tho. So I decided to switched Garnier's miscellar cleanser with salicylic bha and TO's glycolic acid every other day.

But then I tried this Garnier face wash with Vitamin C and oh boy did I breakout... My face was stinging, itchy, the dry patches are full on back and my skin is so dry no matter how many times I moisturize.

I think there's something wrong with my SC routine until I found this short, that I realized its my skin barrier's the problem.

Honestly its just confusing sometimes bc I know I'm dry skin but its hard to used products for dry skin bc they tend to clogged my pores. And I sweat alot too. I just want something that'll help ease the dryness without irritating my skin.
