For the past several years, Teenage Engineering's product is no longer made for bedroom producers, music lovers, or teenagers with enthusiastic music, but rather for rich teenagers or rich musicians looking for an expensive toy, to represent their luxurious life tastes, and aesthetics of life.

Maybe I am the odd one out but I think I definitely prefer the original knobs colour scheme. If there were better features implemented I would consider upgrading but frankly I do not see any ground breaking stuff here for 2K!!!

I’m happy to see you listening to your real op-1 fans and adding everything we asked for, and I’m disgusted by your unjustifiable pricing, keeping it contained to an exclusive crowd, most of whom were not the people that got you where you are today.

This costs the price of two Deluges, it’s insane

I'm so glad you upped the sample time to 20 seconds that's ABSOLUTELY NOT AN ARBITRARY SOFTWARE LIMIT ON YOUR INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE PREMIUM PRODUCT OR ANYTHING

2k for this is absolutely ridiculous. You guys must really be banking on the yuppie hipster apple crowd with this and the mixer. 1k is as high as I would pay for one.

Interesting that they're releasing such an expensive piece of gear during a cost-of-living crisis. Then again, there will always be rich people.

Not enough of an upgrade to warrant the purchase, but I'm impressed with the new interface/screen. Not as impressed with the long list of minor upgrades on their website (including 'new font'). You'd also better believe they'll still be ignoring your emails when you have noise issues, cracking knobs etc.

Even if able to afford it (which I'm obviously not- like most mortals), it just wouldn't feel right. The first OP-1 was overpriced already enough. Luxury limitations. Still so appealing and beautiful, TE clearly NOT listening to people, instead just making us drool with shiny unaffordable toys 🥵😤

there is not another $1000 worth of horsepower and software upgrades in this. spill the beans on the CPU and internals. padding out the new features list by adding "stereo" 14 times for every possible instance is a pretty funny move.

They are not listening to anyone, they are making what they want to make, and pricing it how they want. It may be seen as a naive or irrational way of approaching business for most regular people, but you have to remember TE are small boutique brand and clearly want to remain that. I don’t think they are purposely aiming to appeal to a mainstream crowd or an exclusive “rich” crowd as most people assume, I just think their pricing is a consequence of making what they want, the way they are want, at any cost. They operate like irrational artists rather then a business but to them it’s worth it and they hope that it is also worth it to some. I think people need to realise that context when looking at TE products instead of the obligatory “made for rich people and hipsters”

I got my original OP-1 for around $750 U.S. when it was on sale. This seems...excessive. I know it's been ten years, but man, that's some cash to drop for a device given the lower-cost options out there. But hey, if they sell them, good for them.

This looks really great. Too bad they didn’t implement multi-track recording over USB, if they had, I might’ve been able to justify spending $2000 USD.

Cool instrument but fucked up pricing politics, at this point it‘s just absurd.

Do you know how many amazing synths you could buy with $2000?

Hey guys I have an idea! Rename the og OP-1 to "OP-1 Classic" and charge twice for that "vintage sound of a generation-defining device"!

very cool how you make products exclusively for people who review synths on Youtube and completely ignore real musicians.

A couple of years ago you could get a OP-1 for £1000 now there are selling a new version for £2000 that is simply ridiculous. Its a great product but never worth £2k

First thing I did was checking the date … to make sure it‘s not an april fool hoax. I mean, they cannot be serious, right?

Nice but where is the synth engine fix you promised for the OP1? I can’t justify buying anything else from TE when they don’t fix known issues. I still have the email where I was told they’d fix the issues with the synth engine in a future firmware update. It hasn’t happened.

The biggest improvement seems to be the ability to switch between 4 tapes. My biggest issue with my op1 is the single tape. I would love to be able to go back and forth between songs to give them a chance to ferment before committing to finalizing. Other than that, I see some cool upgrades and tweaks, but nothing game changing.
